Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 33 to 42 of 72    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
The rains from Tuesday made the trails hard as a rock. The trails have been groomed and a deep base remains throughout the trail system, but the edging isn't good. The downhills are icy and dangerous, even for us elite skiers. Not worth the drive. If you fall, you will feel it. Even on the flats, the trails were hard and icy in spots. Need a bit of snow or softening of snow for better conditions. I ski here a lot and sorry, but this is an honest report.

Thanks to Terry, the skate deck on all trails were groomed this morning. Great conditions but getting softer as the morning went along. The classic track still looked solid.

The trails appeared freshly groomed with new corduroy. Nice conditions, but I needed a softer wax as the weather warmed up (about 35 as I left). No ice.

Very good skate conditions. Usage had made it hard packed and fast but soft enough for edging. The downhills were fun and very controllable. Recent snow has provided plenty of coverage. Skied purple twice, green, red, and brown trails. Parking lot was nearly full.

Purple loop was in very good condition. Total coverage and saw no ice in the classic track. Some debris, so if striding no wax or harries are best. There were some Birkie style ruts on a couple of the downhills. Fast and fun conditions!

Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
After missing a couple of years, I again made the trek from North Carolina to shuffle along the Greenbush trails. Found them freshly groomed and perfect. Everyone, both gliders and skaters, fly by me but thats ok. I am 68 and know my limitations. Besides I am not here to pass through quickly. I am here to soak it all in. Thanks to everyone who makes this possible.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
I skated the Brown trail as well as Purple to Green to Purple, and conditions were very nice with an excellent base and no ice. Although the snow of the last couple days (about 2-3 inches) had not been groomed in yet, the flats and downhills were fine with maybe a little slowness to the uphills. Everyone I ran into had only the highest compliments for the grooming and conditions.

Parking lot full. Heavy usage made for a firm snow packed trail but still had good edging for skating. Fast but still had good control on down hills. Good base coverage from recent 8" snow and no problem with debris. Tracks looked as there were many striders. Hope they groom tomorrow which could make it perfect.

Great conditions at Greenbush today. I skied the red, purple and brown trails. Nicely packed with the snow soft enough to get an edge. Just a couple of low areas were a little ice is showing. Lots of people enjoying great conditions for skiing, fat biking, sledding, and snowshoeing. A light snow was falling to add the perfect touch.

Joanie and I skied 10 miles of trails early this morning. Trails were in very good condition for classic with just a little debris and a few very minor icy spots. Skate lanes also looked good-just a little soft on the uphills. Well worth the drive from Madison.
