Firsthand: Classic

Snow chaser from Chicago area - made the trek based on snow reports. Brown, dull landscape all the way, and then - Boom! - all transformed to glistening white about 15 miles north of Milwaukee. Great conditions at Greenbush - skate deck a little soft and loose, but classic track hard-packed and consistent throughout. Snow-covered trees, deep (12") snow on backwoods (black) trail - a winter-land oasis. Parking lot was overflowing at 11 a.m. Thanks to the grooming team for turning last week's hefty, wet snow into a weekend ski bonanza.

Just left Greenbush...awesome conditions! The snow is soft but smooth, the skate deck is in great shape, we had great glide, and tracks are decent but missing in some spots, which is amazing given the heavy traffic today. The groomers were out again tonight resetting the trail. There are some sticks here and there, but today was an A+ day out there and we skied late afternoon and on the lighted loop. The only rough spot was the start as it was glazed over...get out there and ski..!!

Jeff was out grooming the trails as I left the upper parking lot about 6pm. The cold weather tonight could produce epic conditions tomorrow. Please consider donating to the ski club who maintains all the trails. A donation box is in front of the shelter and a recommended donation of $5 per person/$20 per carload donation would be very much appreciated. Thank you and enjoy the great grooming. The woods are beautiful with lots of snow.

Expect a very full parking lot this weekend. Very good conditions, much more snow at Greenbush than many places south of there.

Greenbush received 10 inches of very wet, heavy snow on Wednesday, this on top of wet and partially thawed ground. Temps in the 30's on Thursday did not allow grooming yet. Groomers expect to groom Friday night and anticipate track setting and soft skating on Saturday.

Must have snowed 6-8" while we were visiting Greenbush Wednesday at noon. Trails are closed until they groom but it looks like a good weekend coming up.

Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
With the rain and warm temperatures since Monday afternoon, the Greenbush Trails have been closed to preserve the base. The entire Group Parking Lot has become an ice skating rink. Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive from downtown Greenbush to the trails is salted, but still very icy. Be careful if driving out that way.

Good to excellent compared to around here. Arrived at 7am before the freezing rain moved in. Being my first time here, the 1.5 hr drive was well worth it. Skated 3 purple loops and one red(about 24k)-solid base with about an inch of snow on top-enough for good control. Very few icy spots and some debris here and there.
