Trail Reports

2014-2015 season
Reports 11 to 20 of 21    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan
Friday, February 6, 2015
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 2-3"+ hard packed base, pine cones in the pines.
Most of the trail system at Zillmer is in great shape, with just a few thin areas and a some pine cones in the pines. Groomers have done a great job and made the system quite fast despite the recent cold. If you happen to see a handful of pine cones, please help the groomers and throw them off the trail, thanks.

A huge thank you to the Rangers who have been grooming the trails.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Skating is very good, classic good, 3 inch base.
Packed, groomed and tracked all trails today. We finally received enough snow to groom. Got 3-4 on Sunday and 1-2 yesterday. The skating lanes are in very good condition and the classic tracks are good mostly. There are a few bare spots in the tracks in places.

Grooming
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good for skating.
Trails were rolled for skating this afternoon and are in good condition after the 4 inch snowfall. There is no debris and you can use your good skis. There was not enough snow to set classic tracks but some classic skiers were setting their own.

Grooming
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Rolled with the comb down.
I was out and used the roller and lowered the comb with 4 passes on all trails, finishing around 2:30 or so. We received around 4-5 inches, a great base for the majority of the trails, but there are a couple of rocks that you might hit on the yellow loop; we'll need some more snow. I did not set track as there wasn't enough yet for a good track that didn't go all the way to the dirt. It's still soft, but we'll touch up within a day or two.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Fair mostly, some good.
Late Friday afternoon ski on the two outer loops. Attempted classic but tracks are thin and skied out. Some bald spots and lots of debris. Switched to skating with rock skes. Snow very fast but lots of pine needles and oak leaves. Open areas better with some good areas but lots of crud. Needs a TiddTech job as its uneven at best.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Red and Green trails were in very good shape. Awesome job Reagan! There are a few spots that have some leaves and sticks but otherwise really nice. Hopefully we get some more snow so the skate lanes remain viable. Cross your fingers during the warm weather.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Not to shabby for striding.
Skied the yellow and green. Had to watch to a few rocks but overall I was very pleased. Thank you Reagan! A smidge of light fluff that fell yesterday made it really nice. Might wanna put the sign up at trailhead for 'No hiking or pets' as someone hiked straight down the middle of red and yellow and on Saturday a lady was skiing on trail with her dog.

Grooming
Conditions: Packed and groomed all loops today. Had 2-3 inches of light snow yesterday plus an inch prior. The result was about 1 inch packed. Thin cover in some areas. Overall skiable but marginal. A couple spots on the yellow that you will bump some rocks. Not enough snow to set any track.
Skiable but don't expect a lot with present conditions. Rock skis advised. Some leaf litter but not bad. Red/Green loops best.
