Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
We skied the outer loop at Larson Lake this afternoon. There were some sticks and leaves down, but not much. It was a perfect day to be out skiing and the cross-country tracks were well set and in good condition. Get out and enjoy the great weather and trails. Thanks to those that work hard to maintain these trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Deerwoof Fire Dept had performed a rescue late Wednesday afternoon. The narrow tired side-by-side did the most damage and left 9" deep ruts on a third of the groomed trails. 95% of the damage was repaired this afternoon. Interior classic segments still not cut open or groomed (skiing those trails is at your own risk, please beware breaking trail in deep snow is difficult and potentially life threatening). Warm temps in afternoon skiing make for very soft conditions. A morning ski will have a firmer deck and firmer pole plants. Plans are to open southern interior segments soon with potential volunteers riding with me, the groomer.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We got on the trails today by 1:30 PM and went about 13k. We stuck to the outer classic/skate trail as well as the cut-through at marker 6. As far as we can tell, these are the only trails that have been formally groomed. On the groomed trail, the skate deck was pretty soft with plenty of pole sinking as well as a good amount of debris, mostly composed of twigs and pine needles. The tracks seemed to have been cut recently and were quite clean and consistent. Overall, seems like the trails have good cover and are in great shape for the start of the season! Shoutout to the grooming crew for cleaning up the trails and getting them ready to go after the recent storms!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
Four inches of new snow since last grooming. Groomed all skate lanes far left side and in middle with ginzu groomer. Third pass was setting track on right side. Interior segments still not cut open or groomed, but some skiers have broke trail weaving around bent over hardwoods.

Thanks to my helper (Mark S.) today we were able to open up the north half of the outer loop. Rolled one path while cutting trees from trail, then pulled the ginzu groomer 2-3 passes. In the end, the entire outer loop and the middle cut-a-cross are groomed for skating (a bit soft yet), and tracks set for classic skiing. B skis due to small twigs still exposed here and there.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
When I arrived, grooming was limited to the 4k loop. By late afternoon, however, it looked like our great groomer might have reached the entire outer loop. The 4k loop was in very good shape. There's still some evidence of the carnage left by last week's heavy wet snowfall, and the tracks and deck were just a little bit soft and slow, (which is to be expected given the prodigious recent snowfalls -- including a bit more that arrived today). But the tracks were well set, and the woods were beautiful.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
14 inches of wet, heavy snow the last two days. A ton more trees hanging and fallen across the trails. Six hours and only got a 4.5 km loop rolled, later groomed with tracks set (see photo of route groomed). All other trails not skiable.

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Received 5 inches of very wet snow last night. Rolled all trails to pack the snow. Plenty of young hardwoods bent over the trails that required cutting and removal from trail. No tracks. Grooming plans: With more snow forecast, I hope to set track on Friday.
