We have snow! Appreciate all the grooming work that has gone into keeping trails alive after the last week of Spring weather. Ground was relatively icy. The loop that was around the small hill on the east side is no longer in service, and course has been shrunk to an out and back from the entrance to the hill on the south side. Great for working on hill work, not so much if you just need some flats practice. Hope this snow and cold air can get things back in business soon.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Came prepared with mostly Violet with Red on top, as per temperature. No grip. Added more Red, marginal grip. Waxless had exceptional grip but slow on the main downhill. Not the worse thing since this is now 2-way, and if an uphill skier cuts the corner there could be trouble. You can do a nearly full loop. Go behind the inner loop, there's just one thin spot. Inner loop is a dead end. I don't know why people keep trying it and turning around. People are going wrong way constantly, maybe scared of a few grass blades poking thru perfectly fine snow and turning around, or starting the inner loop which is incomplete, turning around and going back the way they came.

Well I was the only skier I saw today. I skied from 2 to 3 pm. Lots of icy trails and hardscrabble but some sugar snow too. Definitely was skiable but no one else ventured forth.

Way better than I expected, great job groomers. I thought it would be all ice after warm rainy weekend followed by a drop to the 10's. Only a little ice, and some sugar with little grip for pattern skis. Classic tracks deeper and firmer than expected. Minuses: congestion at the outer/inner loop nexus. People like to stand here. And this was before scheduled team practices. Maybe the inner loop should be used for teaching and left alone by regulars, and loitering only inside of the inner loop and far outside of hairpins.

Really decent. A little sugary and hardpack by the evening, but good coverage on the roughly 1k loop. Great opportunity to be on snow and not just rollerskis.

Yup it's pretty icy out there. But trails are groomed and there were a half a dozen of us out there spinning around. No bare spots or rocks. Nice to have the sun out but it didn't really soften the snow/ice up ... but the folks doing the laps are making sugar snow. It is not icy to the point of being dangerous ... at least not for me and I am an older guy who strides and doesn't skate.

I had the place to myself this afternoon for about an hour of skiing. I guess conditions are pretty poor so only die hard skiers or something of that ilk venture forth. That said, there actually were a few places where there was kinda nice soft snow. Most of the course was icy and in some areas quite icy but no glare ice. More like hardscrabble snow packed ice in most places. I had metal edges on my skis and that helped with the control. Conditions reminded me of alpine skiing Sunburst and Little Switzerland in my youth but I digress.... Did I mention that climate change sucks?

I got there in the evening and it was fairly icy and powdery but very skiable. You could probably use good skis, there weren't really any bare spots, but B skis if you're being careful. Great to have a loop open with the weather we've been having.

1 km loop, rolling gentle/moderate hills the whole way, hairpin turns like a gokart track. So much fun! Plenty of snow. Other than climb by powerlines which puts classic into the weeds (temporary situation). The set tracks were rocksolid and so fast! With no slipping on climb either. That is, when you aren't scrambling across skate deck for intersections and turns. The hairpins are soft enough to skate-turn on long touring skis, but caution required on the interchanges which are hard and uneven. Leading to some skittering. Mighta just been rusty skills, it's day 1.
