Trail Reports

2017-2018 season
Reports 4 to 10 of 10    Month: Feb | Jan
Saturday, January 27, 2018
Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail in very good condition despite recent thaw thanks to fine grooming earlier today and a bit of fresh snow. It's still on the fast side and a warm wax is needed even with the cold temps. The spur to the north did not get re-groomed and is a bit dicey because of crust and fast conditions.

I skied the trail including the North spur using Swix 45 for kick wax. The trail was icy in some spots but controllable with the width allowing one to put out a ski to control a turn if need be. Overall it was an excellent ski. There were animal prints near the creek which I believe are raccoon. It is likely this trail will be regroomed tomorrow morning.

I skied 1-2 k past the creek. The track had an inch or so of snow in it and was a slow with temp around 0. It should be better now that I've skied it in a bit.

Trout Lake ski trails are perfect. My husband has skied it everyday for the past 7 days and it's been perfect. I chickened out due to the cold and took the dogs for a walk instead. But friends who have just started skiing skied it on Monday and said it was the best conditions ever. The trail is double tracked all the way into the Joyce Estate, and a single track to the north end. It's a fun place to ski with a friend as you can ski next to each other and talk if youre that type of skier. It's always fun to make it to the Creek which even in the coldest condition stays open. And if you go a little farther you can explore the Joyce Estate, which is a preserved Famiy estate that was abandoned by the Joyce family in the late 70s but a caretaker was onsite until the 80s when the estate was turned over the the Nature Concervency and later to the Forest Service. A perfect place for all levels of skiers. Thanks to the wonderful groomer who maintains this treasured trail.
