Drove up from Wausau and enjoyed a fantastic 14.1 mile ski, traversing the 10k trail twice, and the 2.5 k trail once. Firm base covered with light covering of new fallen snow translated into relatively fast trail conditions that afforded great control. No forest debris or bare spots at all. Used my favorite Atomic Beta race skis as there was no chance of damage to them. Beautiful day to be out in the winter wonderland! Thank you Robert for your superior trail preparation and grooming! Looking forward to my next Win-Man ski outing!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Picked up 3-4" of heavy, wet snow overnight and have been getting mist and drizzle all day today. We groomed up the snowshoe and ski trails this morning but will hold off on the bike trail until Tuesday. Trails groomed up nicely with good tracks but are pretty soft and slow. We expect some glazing on the trails as temperatures drop overnight and plan to scratch up the skate lanes first thing on Tuesday.

Today was my first visit to Winman and what a pleasant surprise. Not only were the ski trails in excellent shape but the building was very accommodating with heat, fireplace, waxing table, snowshoe and snowbike rentals, kitchen, water, changing rooms and bathrooms. Trails were marked well and very easy to follow. I knew exactly where I was at all times and covered all of the trails. Snowshoe and snowbike trails were groomed and pristine too.

We arrived around 1:00 pm with temperatures approaching 40 degrees. I skate skied the red loop first. The skate deck was becoming a little soft and speed was a little slow, particularly for portions of the trail in the sun. Th shaded portions were firmer and faster. It was still a good ski. Around 2:30, I skated the blue loop. The sun was much less prominent and the deck had firmed up some with some portions actually getting a little icy. Again, it was a good ski.

Had a nice classic on the 10k loop. Mostly the tracks were in good order with a brown/iced/skittering here and there that were easily avoidable. The skate deck seemed in good shape and we utilized it here as needed and found that pleasant. What a great, well groomed asset for Manitowish Waters and Northern Wisconsin. As I waxed skis in the bike/wax area I reflected on the warming huts of 40 years ago with slanted floors, smokey wood burning something or others, and an outhouse (if you were lucky). We've come a long way, baby!

Trail conditions were excellent today. I classic skied the red loop out to the 3.3 km out and back that was not groomed. I picked up the yellow loop at the cut-off for the red/yellow. I ended up with 15 km total. The classic track was firm and reasonably fast. The track had a few shallow areas that were easily avoided if you are worried about possible damage to your good skis. Grooming here is always top notch!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Picked up some nice New Year snow last night and this morning. Took me a while to get out here but finally got the ski trail groomed and fully trackset and the snowshoe trail groomed this afternoon. Trails are in great condition and can be skied on with your good skis.
Thank you to all the fat bikers that self-groomed the bike trail today - you guys did great, your hired. Just kidding - I'll groom it on Wednesday. Have a great New Year!

We mountain biked WinMan in September, they have great trails and top notch warming house, so we were excited to experience the cross country trails. We stopped in Saturday afternoon to recon when arriving in the area, there were fat bike demos and they were very busy. Skated the outside loop Sunday morning. Appeared the trails haven't been touched up since Friday. There were a few rocks here and there that were avoidable and a few deeps ruts to navigate around -- nothing 6 inches of snow and some grooming couldn't cure. We will definitely stop in again, hope to find the trails freshly groomed this time.

Thursdays weather produced significant rain in the Wausau area destroying what snow cover we had here. I drove the hour and forty five minutes from Wausau to the Win-Man trails seeking to experience another rewarding cross country ski experience. I was not disappointed as Robert and his son Justin did a magnificent job grooming the trails! I skate skied slightly over 14 miles using my best Atomic skis and realized no damage as there was more than sufficient snow cover. The trails were softer as the snow was fresh as it continued to fall throughout my ski making this beautiful trail system even more scenic! If you are questioning whether or not it is worth making the trip to ski the trails here....the answer is a resounding....Yes! Thanks again Robert and Justin for your time and efforts with the groomers! Happy New Year to all! Looking forward to my next Win-Man ski!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Forecast looked promising and even dumped 3-4" of sticky snow before turning to drizzle and finally rain. We did manage to get the ski, snowshoe trails groomed before the rain got too heavy and the trails got too soft. The entire fat bike trail got packed and partially groomed. Conditions were actually pretty good on all the trails until trails really softened up late afternoon. Forecast overnight is not looking very promising - above freezing and more rain. Plan to groom all trails again starting Friday morning.
