We mountain biked WinMan in September, they have great trails and top notch warming house, so we were excited to experience the cross country trails. We stopped in Saturday afternoon to recon when arriving in the area, there were fat bike demos and they were very busy. Skated the outside loop Sunday morning. Appeared the trails haven't been touched up since Friday. There were a few rocks here and there that were avoidable and a few deeps ruts to navigate around -- nothing 6 inches of snow and some grooming couldn't cure. We will definitely stop in again, hope to find the trails freshly groomed this time.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Thursdays weather produced significant rain in the Wausau area destroying what snow cover we had here. I drove the hour and forty five minutes from Wausau to the Win-Man trails seeking to experience another rewarding cross country ski experience. I was not disappointed as Robert and his son Justin did a magnificent job grooming the trails! I skate skied slightly over 14 miles using my best Atomic skis and realized no damage as there was more than sufficient snow cover. The trails were softer as the snow was fresh as it continued to fall throughout my ski making this beautiful trail system even more scenic! If you are questioning whether or not it is worth making the trip to ski the trails here....the answer is a resounding....Yes! Thanks again Robert and Justin for your time and efforts with the groomers! Happy New Year to all! Looking forward to my next Win-Man ski!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Forecast looked promising and even dumped 3-4" of sticky snow before turning to drizzle and finally rain. We did manage to get the ski, snowshoe trails groomed before the rain got too heavy and the trails got too soft. The entire fat bike trail got packed and partially groomed. Conditions were actually pretty good on all the trails until trails really softened up late afternoon. Forecast overnight is not looking very promising - above freezing and more rain. Plan to groom all trails again starting Friday morning.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We've been getting a dusting here, a couple inches there and though it may not sound like much, it's making a huge difference. All the trails - ski, snowshoe and fatbike - were groomed today. The snowshoe and fatbike trails are in excellent shape with a firm, smooth base. The ski trail continues to improve and has a solid base with complete coverage but not deep enough to set track yet. There's still some lumpy sections and a few dirty spots so I'm still recommending rock or 'B' skis. Have a great Christmas!

[ Rock skis ]
Skate skied the 10K and 7K loops this morning. With a dusting of fresh snow there was mostly good coverage with some thin spots and a few uneven and rough areas. The thin areas were more common on the far end of the 10K loop from trail markers L to Q. Overall though a very good ski and worth the trip. Rock skis are recommended.

[ B skis ]
I skated the regular 6k blue loop without any issues. There were a few sketchy areas but they were easy to ski around. I classic skied the same 6k blue loop and then connected to the red loop for the full 10k. The remaining 4K of the red loop was much dirtier with many short sections of the trail where dirt had been turned up by the groomer. It was still a good ski with no discernible damage to my classic skis. It was a great early season ski.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
The ski trail was groomed today and is in mostly decent shape with some thin and dirty sections. With warm, sunny weather forecast for the weekend though, conditions will be changing. Some recommendationss if you are planning on coming to WinMan this weekend: Get on the trails early if you're biking or skiing. If you're skiing one of the longer loops, take the '6K Easy' option at signpost F to bypass some pretty dirty trail. Don't ski the 10K loop past signpost L and instead return via the 7.5K loop (see second picture to get an idea of trail conditions out that way). Bring your rock skis. Bring snowshoes and enjoy the warm sunny weather exploring our snowshoe trails.

This was my first time at WinMan. What an awesome place. Beautiful warming hut, lots of kind and happy people and multiple winter sports options. My friend and I skied the green and red trails. Both were in very good shape. Good coverage with a few marginal spots that you could easily avoid. There were two times I felt grabbers on my ski bases but for the most part, there were no trail issues. I saw a lot of fat bikers having fun and several other skiers. This is a wonderful place. I hope to visit again.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We picked a few inches of fresh snow on Wednesday and a few more on Thursday and were out grooming almost everyday this week, leveling out the trails. Last night the entire snowshoe system was groomed and today the 8 miles of fat bike and the entire ski trail (minus Out-n-Back) got the treatment. I did try setting track on the 2.5K loop but was still getting into dirt in spots so will wait until we get more snow. Conditions on all the trails this weekend should be excellent.
Scheduling: The local middle and high school ski team will be here on Saturday from 9AM to 3PM for a practice session - we are expecting 50-60 kids and parents during that period. You have been warned! We will probably be out grooming again Sunday morning to clean everything up.

We picked up a few inches of fresh snow overnight and this morning and tidied up all the snowshoe and ski trails this afternoon. Conditions are improving but still have a few bumpy sections.
