Trail Reports

2016-2017 season
Reports 19 to 23 of 23    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Saturday, December 31, 2016
Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
All trails are perfectly groomed. Firm base, tracks very well set. Best conditions we've seen in any of the 10 consecutive years we've been coming up. There was slush on Gegoka when we arrived on Dec 27th, but it seems mostly to have frozen when we traveled across on Sunday morning.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Oh man was this a great ski! 12" of base and then we were floating on another 1" of new snow. As we were skiing I thought we found a rabbit that had exploded but it was just an exceptionally large pile of "wolf wax". Quite a few wolf tracks on trail--and there were some big ones!

All the trails have been groomed and tracked as of today. Good conditions. Beware of slush if you venture out on the lake. 5-7" base and 12-14" snow depth in the open areas.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Thanks to Matt Morris, our new trail groomer, for his many hours this past week getting the trails shaped up. All but 3 trail sections have been cleared of downed trees and either tracked or packed. Snow in the forecast! Let the ski season begin!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
Conditions: Ungroomed-some downed trees, Snow cover about 6 inches with the occasional rock peeking through.
We skied the far east trail around the lake. One skier had broke trail a few days before us. We waddled around about a dozen downed trees. Saw one wolf on the way up and many animal tracks in the fresh snow.
