Notes
These classic single-tracked trails are set in the remote boreal forest of Isabella on Superior National Forest. The trails wind along lakeshores and through spruce/tamarack bogs and old pine, fir, aspen, and birch forests. Skiers can experience a wilderness character on mostly beginner to intermediate loops. Trailhead located at Flathorn Picnic area.Trail Reports

We've been waiting for some fresh snow to rejuvenate a very solid base. Got 1.5" on Monday. Trails were groomed this afternoon and are in good shape.

No significant snow since the thaw. Still a very solid base. No bare spots, but expect some pine litter. Grooming today, but trails will likely only be good. Bring soft wax or waxless skis. 3-5" new snow in the forecast for this Monday. Ski on!

Snow very soft and tracks were old, but the base is good. Once past this warm spell, the groomer should be able to set a tolerable track. These trails need brushing out, but the scenery is terrific and we saw fresh wolf tracks in the spruce bog. Hard to beat that.

5 more inches of snow in the last couple days. Trails haven't been in this great condition mid-January in as long as we can remember. 20+ inches in the woods - 7-12" base. All the trails will be groomed and tracked today. Wolves caught on video a week ago on Lake Gegoka, come ski and howl with us!

Skied Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Never saw another soul. Only saw the tracks of another skier on Monday. They must have been out ahead of us. Lots of snow. It was very cold so we used our hardest kick in the morning and then switched to blue when the temps rose. Perfect conditions if you don't mind breaking trail. It snowed about an inch every night. So we broke trail as far as we were going on that trip and then took advantage of our glide on the way back. Totally awesome was in addition to the wolf tracks there was an otter track on the trail on Monday. Rare to see that. Otters apparently like to ski too!

Recently tracked but wind blown in spots. Lots of wolf tracks on trails with a few deer parts laying about. Trails are in good condition with some having sticks and twigs poking through. A great backwoods ski with little or no company.

Additional 5-6 inches of snow in the past couple days. System was completely groomed on Tuesday afternoon. Excellent base, track set and beauty.
