It was the best conditions of the year both yesterday and today. With beautiful sunshine. And almost no one on the trails.

Fabulous mid-January conditions this early morning on all natural snow and man-made trails! Early morning cool temps are making for some incredible conditions for spring!

While there is plenty of snow - the condition was less than stellar last evening. The man made loop seems to have had the most work done to deal with this last snow storm. With that - the classic tracks were sloppy and washed out in placed (could also be the warm weather) The skate deck seemed to be rolled at best. On the natural snow trails there were no classic tracks set and looked like the only grooming may have been skiers packing the trail down. I was also surprised that the downhills were as scraped as they were.

Skied on the made-snow loop a few times, starting around 8:30. The first lap was firm, with very few loose spots. With every additional lap, the snow became softer and much slower. After three, I had to start skating down hills. The snow was still great and no risk to skis. The hills were not icy anywhere, even on the first lap. Boulder Ridge was actually the nicest part of the course since the uphill was not being sun-warmed, and the downhill was still fast, but not icy.
We started down the lake loop at one point, but immediately turned around as we could see exposed dirt/pavement and the trail looked like ice.

Stayed on the man made loop this morning. Really nice spring skiing. Well groomed and tracks were well set.

Amazingly fast and fun. Skate skied the man made loops yesterday from 7-8 pm. It was solid and fast. Probably a bit challenging for a newer skate skier, but there was enough 1/2 - 1 inches of loose snow on all the up hills. The downhills were smooth and relatively easy to snowplow if you didn't want to blast down them. Don't miss these last great evenings of comfortable skiing with the mild temps.
I didn't do the back hill as I was concerned about the big downhill. I'll leave that for daytime hours.

Continued streak of perfect post-Birkie morning conditions, well below freezing temps every morning! Fastest skating of the season, and no ice to worry about on the man-made loop. Natural snow trails look to be more icy so man-made loop is ideal for morning skiing.

Man-made loop was fast this morning. The grooming was amazing and had some fast loops. The natural trails were minimally groomed, extremely slick and not enjoyable.
