2015-2016 season
Reports 35 to 44 of 109    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Awesome for skating at noon.
The deck was perfect at noon, fast but not icy. The classic tracks appeared to be in good shape also. By 1:30pm the up hills and deck West of the tubing hill bridge were getting a little mashed-potato-ish.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Fast and icy. Great double polling workout for classic. Better be over your ski if skating.
The tracks were pretty icy and in places there was no edge to be had in the skate lane on the manmade snow. It was so fast for classic that you really didn't have to worry about kick for 95% of the Valley loop.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Outer Loop -- Poor, Snowmaking loop -- Good.
Despite the posted conditions noting that the outer ski loop is in poor condition, I ventured out off the hamster wheel to check it out. It starts out OK, but is very poor in places. B skis OK, rock skis suggested if you want to ski without worry. Manmade loop had been wet, but winds had made the surface icy. Hopefully after grooming overnight things will change things, but cooling during the day may not help.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: 32 degrees, misting - solid classic track.
Skied mid-afternoon before the high school teams arrived (even after they arrived, the man-made trails weren't crowded). Great grooming, fast track. There were only a handful of people striding. The skate deck looked firm, even on the uphill portions. Thanks, groomers!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Outer classic loop - fair to good.
I skied the "outer classic" loop on Sunday. Two sets of shallow tracks on both the Eagle trail and the Monarch trail. No tracks on Creek, Lake or Northern Lights trail. Very good tracks on man-made snow at the Valley trail.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Pretty good overall for skating. The snowmaking loops around the chalet were excellent for skating and the classic tracks looked good too. The outer loops through the woods were decent for skating but did not have classic tracks set. There was debris and a few bare spots. Worst spot was the steep hill on the Northern Lights loop, had to avoid some bare spots going down. But overall not too bad given how little snow we've had this year!
Skied here Saturday and Sunday. Parking lots and chalet crowded with snowboarders and tubers but the ski trails weren't too crowded at all.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Outer Trails - Good considering the thin snow cover. Mostly cloudy, 20F.
Skated the outer loop with the twins from the Chalet to Lake, Creek, back to Lake and returned on Northern Lights. For the most part, the trails were decently covered, polished fairly smooth and hard with good glide. Here and there dirt was just visible, but easy to avoid. Not enough snow for any of the trails to be really flat. In some spots, the best line had one ski 2 ft or so higher than the other and there were some very undulating stretches, but who cares, it's nice to be out in the woods again. The return portion of Northern Lights was very good, better cover than any of the other trails we skied. Used FastWax white, worked well.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Fair to excellent, depending on location.
Skied all the trails Wednesday. Multi-use has finally been "expanded" into its normal width and was in great shape--very A-skiable. Lake/Creek were pretty good--some debris here and there and still washboard-y. However, the fluff we got the other night was not yet combed in (4 PM) coming in from Lake/Creek (the big downhill/before getting to the beach area). Still OK for A-skis, but the narrow wooden bridge before the beach had more dirt than desired on/around it. Man made is always good, but will be chewed up daily, since races are out there all week.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Man-made loop is in great shape.
The 2.5k man-made loop is in great shape for skating or classic. I didn't try NL or the outer loops, but they did appear to be groomed and have some coverage on the portions I could see. I didn't observe any classic tracks though.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Multi Use: Very good. Groomed well, flat and firm. 20F, some wind. Nice sunset. White FastWax.
Skijored the Multi Use late afternoon. Stevie had LuLu and I drove Boomer. The trail was in very good shape, nice grooming job, very even all the way around, the dogs were pulling well, easy to apply power. Still a little shallow, maybe 2-4 in deep but poling was fine, no skidding. Fairly fast, the abrasive stuff we've been skiing on for a week is finally starting to behave. Fun time, not much wind, met two skiers on the long straightaway that intersects Lake, otherwise no one else. White FastWax has been working well all week in the dry gritty snow grooming seems to produce and is OK in deeper snow; lasts a long time, too. Teal was better in new snow, but awful on trails and I wax four pairs of skis, so everyone gets white!
