Notes

A nice set of trails with rolling hills. The first lighted trail system in the metro, it still attracts a lot of after-work skiers.

2017-2018 season

Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Packed and groomed, no classic tracks. The groomer was working while I was there at 9am. The trail is not as wide as normal but plenty wide for skating. Conditions were somewhat bumpy in places that hadn't been regroomed, but very nice after the fresh grooming. Overall, wonderful conditions!

French's snowmobile grooming was not adequate for the snowapocalypse. Trail was very lumpy and uneven to the point of being unskiable. I tried skating for 20 min and had to quit. Classic was no better as there is no track. I'd stay away from French until they are able to groom again.

Was fortunate to be in the Cities Saturday during the historic blizzard and stopped by French for the first time. I had both skate skis and touring skis with metal edge and fish scales along. When I pulled into the park and saw the sledding hill there was no question what skis to use. Skied up and down the sledding hill for 30-40 minutes than ventured around the park breaking first tracks. With no one else around it was hard to believe I was in the metro. Great ski, snow wasn't sticky and woods provided protection from the wind.

Lots of snow at French this morning, and skiing with the people made tracks!! My brother-in-law called and said Wirth had been groomed. So, I packed up after a couple loops and headed to Wirth!

I skied across the lake with my son Karl and we skied the far figure 8 loop on the Lighted and Challenge trails. The trails are not groomed, but it was a wonderful ski anyway. Swix Blue kick wax worked great!

Freshly groomed skate lane, classic trails icy and not freshly groomed. Skiing this morning was wonderful! There are a few icy patches early in the loop and the far part of the lighted loop is closed, but the rest of the trail is in great condition. Thank the groomers if you see them! I'm hoping for a few more good days of skiing on this trail.

Skied around 10 am today. Entire trail beautifully groomed. Only two other skiers out when we arrived so we had the place to ourselves. Excellent conditions. Hats off the the groomers for a job well done. Enjoy it while you can!

Grooming was in progress this morning and the skate deck was smooth and soft. Classic tracks had not been set when I left but I suspect they would be the last thing the groomer sets. Enjoy the trails this week!

Lakeview-Challenge-Meadow-Skyline trails: Skate deck in surprisingly good shape. Plenty of snow. Only a few soft spots due to sun and high temps. Worst soft spots were at southeast corner of Meadow Trail. Some puddling areas where steep hills dump onto the trail, especially southbound stretch of Skyline Trail where it runs along base of Challenge hill; no risk to skis though and easy to ski around. Classic tracks looked good everywhere except for a few hundred feet at the southeast corner of Meadow Trail and maybe a meter or so at the Southeast corner of the isthmus.
