New Reports Report Requests

Notes

A great mix of beginner and expert ski trails. With the inclusion of the Jerry Jolly Trails there is about 25 km groomed for skating and classic. There is also an additional 15 km of classic only trails. With views of Lake Superior and the Apostle Islands, this is a very scenic area to ski. There is a nice lodge which sells snacks and food as well as a ski patrol and small downhill area.

2016-2017 season

Slogged through 3+ inches of new snow during a snow squall. Bad idea to try to skate ski! Classic tracks were half buried, but usually better than trying to do V1. Met one other skier starting out to classic. Ok for fresh air and exercise but not for an enjoyable ski. Skied most outer skating loops.

We got about 1 inch of new snow today. The groomers regroomed and tracked the skate trails, including: Anchor, Jolly Long, Seagull, Rollercoaster and Telford. The groomer reported excellent conditions.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
With a dusting of new snow, the skate trails were regroomed and tracked today, including: Anchor, Seagull, Jolly Long, Rollercoaster and Telford. The skate lanes weren't icy, but with the firm base underneath, were nice and fast. I'll try the classic tracks out later. Tomorrow night our groomers will regroom the race course to be ready for The Ashwabay Summit Ski Race, better known as the Pie Race, on Saturday. Hope to see you there!

With 3-4 inches of new snow, the groomers groomed and tracked all the trails today. The new snow made a huge difference on the trails. There is around 5-7 inches of packed base, no icy spots. I would rate the conditions as very good to excellent! Come and enjoy!

Conditions were fairly crusty and glazed, an earlier dusting from Friday having been worn into the tracks. Hill that are normally simple to ascend were suddenly a struggle. Downhills are fast with little available snow for control. The good news is that the tracks were firm and in good shape and its snowing now with more coming. The next few days should be very good to excellent.

Skated 30+ km today. Trails were well groomed and with very solid base they were fast and easy. Well worth the trip if your coming from out of the area. Classic tracks also looked to be in great shape. No thin spots at all. Compliments to Scott and the other groomers!

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Today things had firmed up enough to groom things into decent condition after the January Thaw of 2017. We still have 4-6 inches of packed base on most of the trails. We groomed and tracked all of the skate trails, and tracked: Sugarbush Classic, Seagull Connector, Birch Hill and Oppedahl's. The skiers I ran into said it was in very good condition after we groomed.

Must have been groomed earlier today. 45 degrees made the classic tracks soft, and lots of pine needles, but a really nice ski regardless. By the time I got to skate it was dusk and the snow crispy with a thin crust on top. Still had enough give to get traction and it was fast. I would assume that the trails will be good for the next couple of days so long as it doesn't rain and you hit them at the right time, after it warms above freezing for an hour or two.

With the wind yesterday, there was a fair bit of drifting. This evening we retracked the classic trails that had a lot of drifting, including: Raven to Deerpath, Deerpath to Black Bear, Black Bear, the loop of Sugarbush Classic, and the Sugarbush Dog Trail. Another groomer is planning on going out in the morning to touch up the skate trails.
