Beautiful afternoon classic ski (along with a few intervals - uffda!). Mid-winter conditions, perfect snow, great tracks, and loads of trails to ski. Hit Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, and finished with Sap Run. Great way to round out 2016.

Grooming Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Another dusting of light snow overnight. All skate trails groomed and new tracks cut on 30km of trail for a total of 45km of trail groomed early this morning. We also opened up the final groomed trail segment, Bootleg Extension off Bullhead lake trail. Being it was the first time packed and groomed it's a bit soft but on a day like this afternoon when the wind picked up, a great place to ski. We will be back out in the morning touching up the skate trails and setting new tracks on select trails. Reports from the fat bikers were good, Ben did a nice job widening the corners and leveling the deck.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
A epic day on the trails! Snow this morning while grooming, cleared with not a cloud in the sky, than clouds moved in with another shot of prairie effect snow than clearing at dusk. Total new snow today around 2". We set new track and combed out skate lanes on 35km of trail than set new track on select trails this evening. We will be back out in the early morning touching up the well used trails. Excellent conditions. P.S. Big thanks to Ben Olson packing out the fat bike trail and Denny Barry clipping brush today.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We were out early this morning, grooming most of trail system. The trails were skied hard today but held up well and couldn't of asked for a nicer day. Surface is packed powder on top of a crust base. Few classic trails the poles are pushing through but overall fantastic skiing. We will be out again in the morning cutting new tracks and touching up select areas that got a little washed out. All 15km of separate skate trails will be combed/renovated as well. Big thanks to Matt Liebsch for coming up and helping the new Moorhead Nordic ski team with drills today.

Grooming Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We started grooming around noon, setting new track on 15km of trail. The base hadn't completely frozen down but reports from skiers all good, enjoying the new snow. The skate trails got skied in nicely by the ski teams that arrived today and will be leveled and combed tomorrow morning. We will also be setting more track on most of the trail system. Wind has settled down and temps in single digits should make for great skiing tomorrow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The precipitation last night was all snow. New snowfall as of 9am around 2" and currently snowing. We did not lose any snow yesterday. Snow depth in the woods ranges from 10-16". The trails are open on a compacted base of 4-6". We are holding off on grooming until the snow/base dries out a bit and the wind settles down. This might not be until the evening. Regardless, the trails are open and skiing is great. Road reports coming around the area are typical winter driving conditions.

Afternoon
Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
We had a great day of skiing, fat biking and our first day of skating on the rink! We did get some funky weather later afternoon in the form of sleet, freezing rain than turning to snow as of 9:30pm. New snowfall just under an inch. It might switch back over to rain before snow again but we are ready to resume grooming once the timing is right and the snow dries out. We did not lose any snow today, only adding to the base with the snow and sleet accumulation.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We groomed this morning on select trails, touching up areas used in the ski meet yesterday and also scratched and combed Skaters Waltz and Suicide Hill. A classic ski with Jake late morning found excellent conditions with light winds and abundant sunshine. We bushwhacked the non groomed segments on Bullhead lake trail including the north end which hadn't seen skiers yet and packed it down for snowmobile packing tomorrow and inspected the slush areas which have now frozen down. Entire loop is skiable, watch for deadfall on non groomed areas. We did warm up above 32 today for the first time but very low dew points relative to the temperature kept the snow fairly dry other than the south facing areas. Reports from afternoon skiers all good and overall very nice day for skiing. Thanks to Denny Barry for clipping brush today on North Loup. We are holding off on grooming for now with the uncertain forecast to preserve the snow and ready to groom when the timing is right. However, skiing is excellent right now, no reason not to ski!

Soft and smooth classic tracks: Sukkerbusk, Mother North Star, Twin Lakes, and my favorite: Roy's Run. 21 km of fun and workout - a great day on the trails! The sunset on the Twin Lakes trail was gorgeous. It was also a pleasure to see the high school skiers having so much fun. Well behaved young athletes. I live 5.5 hours away, but plan to be back a few times in the season. Thank you, and Merry Christmas!

Two inches of new snow this morning bringing our season total to 31". We had a nice morning of skiing in fresh powder as the ski teams finished up training camp. The afternoon we groomed the course for the DL Invite. Sap Run, Mother North Star and Skaters Waltz will be closed for the races Thursday from 10am until 3pm. All remaining 55km of trail will be open for skiing. Excellent conditions with fresh snow on top of packed machine groomed base.
