Reports 11 to 20 of 129    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov | Oct
Thursday, March 5, 2015
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Lake trail fair to good.
Had a lovely ski on Lake Trail at dusk. Used good skis. Groomed for skate, slightly soft. Mostly full coverage with a few avoidable exposed spots on bridges and downhills. Returned on Northern Lights which was also in good shape. Manmade loop was great as usual. Should be nice natural snow skiing if you can get out there early Friday!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic

Conditions: Northern lights trail fair for classic with no track.
Skied about 8:00 pm Tuesday night after the recent snowfall. Plenty of snow. Skating lane had about an inch of loose snow.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle Observation
[ Bare ground ]
Conditions: Multi-Use: deep light snow, not groomed. Fast Wax teal, worked OK.
Skijored the Multi-Use this afternoon, nice sunny day, about 25F or so, very windy. Trail wasn't groomed yet but was covered all the way around. Snow depth varied from 2-3 inches to 6 inches or so depending on wind exposure. The trail sections that had melted over the last week or so were easy to hit pavement. My B skis are now C skis, so be careful until after the groomers compact the snow a bit. Lake and the other trails that are visible from the MU were groomed and looked good. The 100 m or so the MU shares with Lake were flat and fast, nice. Can't wait to get out to the outer trails tomorrow without the Two Fangs, who were super as usual.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Skate and classic excellent on the manmade as expected.
A little rusty at this. The snow was firm and fast. Considered going out on the Thicket/Northern Lights (which was good for skate on Saturday) but decided not to as it was the hint of a dusting of snow on top of icy stuff. Don't need another fall this season.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Good for skate ski/fair for traditional.
The snow was groomed for skate ski but not for traditional. As a traditional skier I just followed alongside the skate ski trail or in some places made my own trail. Beautiful day out there --sunny and peaceful.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Conditions: Good, fast. White.
Fast conditions at Elm Creek on the manmade snow loop, despite the cold. With the HS ski season finished, there was plenty of fresh corduroy even in the evening. The classic tracks were deep, but not too hard or icy--they even ran all the way up the big hill on the valley loop, no washout. Didn't venture onto the Northern Lights loop as I was on my A-skis.

Excellent as usual. There was appx an inch of new fluff; NL trail not groomed yet as of 2 PM today but good coverage.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Valley has a firm deck with nice tracks. NL is not tracked, but fair snow coverage with an increasing amount of debris.
Not too many brave souls out there on what I thought was a pretty decent day, a little cool though. Slow going because I didn't change my wax from Friday, but still enjoyable. The surface of the wood bridge leading to the outer loops is more wood than snow. Sure could use some more of the white stuff!

The 5K loop is groomed, no tracks on Northern Lights but adequate snow cover. It is nice to ski on snow that has fallen from the sky.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
Conditions: Natural snow surprisingly good, man-made snow not so good.
Skied most of the trails this evening. The Creek trail had essentially full coverage although it was thin going over the boardwalk at the start and the section from where it rejoins the Lake trail until the intersection with the Northern Lights. Eagle hadn't been rolled but was quite skiable. The Valley loop was a solid chunk of ice with any new snow blown away by the gale force winds today.
