Notes

Trails are on the golf course. Some nice hills but most of the course is pretty exposed. There is one back leg that is quite shaded and seems to hold snow long after the rest of the course loses it. Rentals at the chalet.

Firsthand: Classic

Good classic tracks at Como today. Also had great tracks at Phalen yesterday. Hats off to all the groomers at the St. Paul public courses. Great to have so many wonderful options to ski within a 10 minute drive.

Tracks had not been reset nor the deck rolled. That said, there had been enough traffic to keep the classic tracks open and they were surprisingly fast, deep, and well defined. The deck, even though not rolled, was quite firm. The course continues to be a joy to ski.

Classic tracks north of the bridge and clubhouse are as good as I have ever seen. They are firm and fast but not icy. The deck was freshly rolled. It was slow but still awesome. South of the bridge wasn't quite as good but still was very good.

All trails were groomed and tracked this morning. Conditions are great with a lot of base and deep tracks, enjoy!

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Groomed this morning before 9am both classic and skate deck. Skate deck was very soft. The classic tracks were soft but set deep with full coverage throughout the coarse.

I started trying to skate, but found the skate deck still too soft, so I switched to classic. Overall the classic tracks were in very good condition. The "interesting" bumps just north of the chalet are still there. They make it feel like skiing on springs, but they're not difficult to contend with. The second uphill after Lexington went missing. Wonder what could have happened to it, since I saw no sign of bulldozer work to flatten it. I missed it. I do hope it is brought back on future groomings, just as I hope the trail coming out of the bowl might go all the way up to the plateau at the top again. It makes for a better cardio workout. Overall, I'm still really grateful to have Como back in service, even if it is a shorter loop than it used to be. Thanks to the groomers!

The classic tracks just north of the clubhouse had some interesting bumps in them but other than that, the classic tracks were great. The deck was soft but well groomed so the hills were a little slow (which was nice from my perspective). There were spots that pole plants along the classic track sunk down quite a bit (I think they may have set the tracks off of where the track was). There were a few spots that you could see through the deck but the are easily avoided. I am certain that the deck will set up over the next few days. Our groomers have done an awesome job given the snow that we received less than 24 hours ago!

It has been rolled and tracked but too soft for skating. Classic tracks seemed to be holding up OK for those walking it. Needs to set overnight. Saw 4 skaters before me and all 4 breaking through on each push off. Even riding a flat ski it's possible to break through the rolled skate track. I cut my ski short to avoid more damage.

The northern part of Como was perfect. Firm and swift but not icy classic tracks. Skate deck was firm with corners a bit worn. South side saw classic tracks much more worn. No lights by the zoo. All in all great conditions.

Groomed today - wide, mostly quite good. There are two short stretches not groomed that are hard, a bit slippery and a little rough. Classic tracks looked good to excellent.
