  • Assistant Nordic Coach: St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY):
    St. Lawrence University is currently seeking applicants for a Graduate Assistant Coach for Men’s and Women’s Nordic Ski. This 9-month position (August, 2021 – May, 2022) is targeted toward graduate students seeking a master’s degree. Remuneration includes a competitive coaching stipend, student health insurance, and eligibility for tuition remission (6 graduate classes per year in the University’s graduate program). Responsibilities include providing instruction and assisting in practice preparation, game day duties, recruiting, and administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach.     Mt. Hood’s Teacup Nordic is looking for an enthusiastic new Programs Coach interested in growing and improving our racing and training programs. Teacup Nordic is the primary venue and programs provider for the Nordic skiing community of Portland Metro & Hood River County areas. The Programs Coach will set a positive tone and function both as a manager and a coach. Tasks will include: implementation of training & racing practices across multiple ages, creation and organizing of training, race trips and camps, communicating with and coordinating parents and athletes, ensuring athlete registration and USSA compliance as well as recruitment and welcoming of new skiers.

  • Mountain Manager: Teacup Cup Lake Nordic (Hood River, OR):
    Mt. Hood’s Teacup Nordic is looking for an experienced, broadly capable General Manager. This “Mountain Manager” will be excited to lead and execute all venue and operations work as well as support coaches focused on our programs. Teacup Nordic is the primary venue and programs provider for the Nordic skiing community of Portland Metro & Hood River County areas. The goals of this leader will be multiple, such as: creating quality, reliable venue conditions and programs, promoting appreciation for and enjoy of healthy, athletic lifestyles, creating opportunities for junior skiers to learn the valuable lessons afforded by higher level competition, and fostering a welcoming, supportive Mt. Hood Nordic community.

  • Executive Director: Grand Mesa Nordic Council (Grand Junction, CO):
    The Grand Mesa Nordic Council (GMNC) is seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to fill the role of Executive Director. The Executive Director will be the professional liaison between the public, GMNC members, staff, and board. This person will hold a key leadership role and will be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of the GMNC and will implement the Annual Operating Plan. The Executive Director will report to the Board Chairs and will work with the board, all sub-committees, and staff to fulfill our mission to promote cross country skiing on Grand Mesa in western Colorado.   • Program Director/Head Coach Job Opening: Bethel Outing Club (Bethel, ME):
    The Bethel Outing Club seeks a Program Director/Head Coach to launch their 3-year initiative ‘Maine West Project Play.’ This 3-year initiative is a direct response to the heightened sense of isolation, hopelessness and depression in our community resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition to being a great coach, we are looking for a candidate interested in working with mental health experts to build resilience in our kids and adhere to the philosophy of The Aspen Institute’s “Project Play.” Although based in Bethel, Maine, we hope to scale the program to reach other communities in subsequent years.

  • Participant Experience Specialist: American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation (Hayward, WI):
    The Participant Experience Specialist is responsible for ensuring participants in ABSF events have a positive experience from registration through the finish line. Position will assist with bib pickup at all ABSF events, Birkie Ski Event week details, communication with participants, registration processing and data management, and general inquiries.  Must have friendly, customer-service attitude to answer questions and resolve issues via phone and email.  The position will also oversee sport programming logistics, including program details, on the ground logistics, and potential coaching opportunities.

John Fitzgerald pays respect to Phil Zink, one of the developers of the Tidd-Tech grooming equipment and huge presence in the Nordic skiing community. Zink passed away earlier this month.

Minnesota Nordic legend George Hovland passes on

May 9, 2021
It is being reported on Sunday that one of Minnesota's major Nordic Legends Duluth native George Hovland passed away, just a few weeks shy of his 95th birthday. Hovland competed for the US in the Winter Olympics and eventually went on to found Snowflake Nordic Center. He will be sadly missed in the community. No further details at this time.
