  • Head Nordic Coach: Southwest High School (Minneapolis, MN):
    Minneapolis Southwest High School is seeking applicants for the position of Head (Boys/Girls) Nordic Ski Coach for Winter 2022-23. Southwest has a strong tradition of competitiveness in Nordic skiing including a state runner up finish in 2019-20 and State Championships in 2021 and 2022. Qualifications/requirements include: successfully lead, develop, teach and provide a positive athletic experience for interested athletes grades 7-12. Program head should have a comprehensive knowledge of the sport of Nordic Skiing and be willing to meet all/any MSHSL & Southwest coaching requirements. Program head should also have an ability to create a positive team atmosphere and oversee a wide range of abilities as well as an aptitude to work with assistant coaches to ensure that each athlete is progressing toward a goal, whether that be winning State or developing a love of the sport. Team practices at Theodore Wirth Park. Head coach is also responsible for planning and overseeing all practice and race schedules. This is a part time stipend position.     Three Rivers Park District is seeking to fill Seasonal Nordic Ski Instructor positions at Hyland and Elm Creek in the Park District. This position is responsible for conducting cross-country ski lessons in accordance with established curriculum and training which support Park District efforts to increase public understanding and awareness of winter outdoor recreation opportunities, foster environmental stewardship, and the appreciation, enjoyment, and utilization of Park District facilities and resources.

    Breck School is looking for a Head Nordic Coach as well as Assistants. We run our practices at Wirth Park and belong to the Independent Metro Athletic Conference. The team is a mix of 7-12 grade male and female athletes of varying levels.     Responsible to ensure that Soldier Hollow ski trails, tubing hill, and grounds are all built, groomed and maintained at the highest standards for, competitions, public activities and overall public safety. Terry Penman Passes On

Terry Penman of Seeley, Wisconsin passed away peacefully last Thursday, Sept 22nd, surrounded by family and his beloved dog Rooster. Penman played a significant role in the recent developments at the American Birkebeiner as architect of the International bridge, the Great Hall, the timing building, the Outdoor Center, the office and museum, and many of the trailhead cabins. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Terry’s life at 1 pm on Oct 22nd at the Sawmill in Seeley.

Roy Carlsted Passes On

One of Minnesota's legendary skiers, Roy Carlsted, passed away on Wednesday, August 31st. Carlsted was just shy of 100 years old. A memorial service will be held Sept 17th at North Heights Lutheran Church in Arden Hills.
