Fall Update

The snow is falling of west and I hope that this means we will have a good winter season in Minnesota this year. Our Fall association meeting will take place in Mora, at the Vasaloppet Training Center, on October 26th. This is our main meeting of the year where we take action on ideas that have been discussed throughout the year. We do have on the agenda already the same proposal that was narrowly defeated by the MSHSL Board of Directors in June. If there are other proposals that member would like to discuss and consider please forward these requests to me at my NEW email address. [email protected]

I would like to make sure that all coaches to take the time to join the association. We are an advisory committee that works with and submits proposals directly to the MSHSL for consideration. The more members we have the larger and more united our voice and influence is on this process. Only members of the association are allowed to vote. A few of the perks that come with membership are the $1,000,000.00 liability insurance coverage. Membership also allows our student athletes to be recognized as All State athletes as well as allows our individuals and teams be recognized for academic excellence. Also make sure your entire coaching staff are members.

I was informed earlier this week that our President elect Chris Hanson from Brainerd will need to step down from that role. He told me he has some new opportunities that will be taking more of his time and does not feel he will be able to fulfill his role as president of the association. We need to find a new President-elect to fill this vacancy. Nominations or volunteers can be sent to me prior to the meeting on the 26th or can be brought up at the meeting.

I am sure that many already have heard that the MSHSL Rules Interpretation for Nordic Skiing has gone online this year. There will not be any live meetings this year at Mora, Duluth, or the metro area. Please make sure that you take care of this prior to the start of the season but also do not let this be a reason not to show up to our meeting at the end of the month in Mora. This is an important meeting to see the other coaches from around the state, discuss and plan the up coming season and discuss and act upon changes to our sport.

Finally we will have a vendor expo again giving coaches the opportunity to talk to various representatives about their equipment and supply needs.

I will send out an agenda in a week or so after there has been a chance for people to put together their requests and ideas for the meeting.

I look forward to seeing everyone in Mora in a few weeks.
