Skinnyski.com High School Rankings - Week 3

January 7, 2014

Commentary:

Not a lot of data to work with over the holiday break, with just a few races and US Nationals.  Nationals puts a real skew into some of the recent results, as a number of top juniors are competing at Soldier Hollow, thus MIA in their local conference races.

Only a slight change in the team standings as the St. Louis Park boys move up to fifth, bumping out Ely.  St. Louis Park has been doing well, losing by just one point to Stillwater in the Irondale Invite (and without their star, Sean Cork).  Girls team rankings remain the same, but Mesabi has been making a good case for moving up.

Not a lot of movement in the individual rankings either.  Vivian Hett put in another dominating classical performance, besting the Midwest junior girls field at Nationals.  Mattie Watts showed her speed work has been paying off with a top sprinting result, while Alayna Sonnesyn continues a very steady pursuit of the top two.  Like her team, Anna Johnson should probably be squeezed into that top ten list very soon.

Zak Ketterson returns to the top of our boys rankings, showing great fitness in the Nationals classic race.  The rest of the boys field still appears to be a very tight race.  With some better results from the Arrowhead, we bring Keaton Long into the top ten as one of the rising stars this season.

Up next, second half of Nationals (skate race) and the huge Mesabi East Invite ...
