Open Letter to Club Coaches/Directors

Club Coaches/Directors:

We would like to bring to your attention a few items that have been mentioned on several occasions throughout the season, as well again out our Nordic Coaches Association spring meeting on March 11,  in Mora.

  1. There is a strong feeling amongst the HS coaches that the skiers that we all work with are under a lot of pressure to race at their best for both their HS, as well as their club.  With 4 weekends, involving 8 races at the club level, these athletes are becoming overworked, or at least, over raced.  We would like to make a formal request that the Midwest Junior National Team be selected on the basis of 6 races over three weekends so as to lighten the load in January.

  1. There is no secret that the HS Coaches Association, as well as CXC, have been trying to implement a wise waxing policy as it pertains to Flourinated waxes.  At our spring meeting we took some steps to simplify what will become the policy from the HS Coaches Association.  As it stands right now, LF waxes would be allowed at any HS level race, for the purpose of durability on the sometimes harsh and sometimes dirty, manmade snow we have been forced to race on almost exclusively.  Each Conference is going to set a policy for their use of any other Flourinated wax during their conference schedule.  We share this with you so that if you ever get asked to wax ski’s for a HS race, we ask that you be made aware of the State and particular conference guidelines for fair play.

  1. Going forward, the HS Nordic Coaches Association will not be allowing club programs to set up waxing stations in areas designated for HS teams.  This will particularly apply to section and state meet venues that are under the auspices of the MSHSL.  If clubs are on site waxing ski’s for the event, we ask that you would wax any skier who asks, free of charge, regardless of club affiliation.

  1. We ask that you not schedule practices for HS athletes during HS practice time, thus placing the skier in the middle of wanting to please both their HS coach and her club coach.
