LATE SNOW MEANS EXPANDED 24 HOURS of WIRTH EVENT

Our extended winter conditions in Minneapolis means that planners of the 24 Hours of Wirth, which begins at sundown on March 15, can use an expanded course. Instead of being confined to a short, all-that-is-left loop, organizers are currently planning to use an 7.5 kilometer loop for the ultra distance event.

"We're pretty excited about the 24 Hours event," says John Bussey, the Loppet's Chief of Events & Corporate Relations. "When we put 24 Hours of Wirth on the calendar we were thinking that it would be a great way to say our final farewell to winter - the emphasis was not so much on great skiing as on having as much light as possible. As it turns out - we'll have BOTH the light and great snow."

Participants can sign up as individuals or teams. "With the new Trailhead facility we expect a 24 hour party atmosphere on the trails." Organizers will have music going and endurance fuel throughout the night. To cap the cay the Trailhead's new eatery, Cajun Twist, will host their inaugural Mardi Gras festival as the event comes to a close
