MN Nordic Ski Coaches Association August updates

My name is Paula Anderson and I am the interim President of the MN High School Nordic Ski Coaches' Association. The purpose of this email is to make contact and update you on the work being done this summer by your interim Executive Board. The board has been meeting monthly with the following goals in mind:

  1. To improve communication with coaches and supporters through establishment of an up-to-date email list
  2. To devise an effective method of communicating with coaches and supporters
  3. To establish an effective means of communication continuity between Presidents
  4. To revisit our Mission Statement
  5. To review submitted State Meet revision proposals
  6. To update our website

Last month we met with Charlie Campbell, our new liaison at the MSHSL in charge of Nordic Skiing. He is taking the place of Rich Matter. Charlie is a former Athletic Director at Brainerd High School, and is ready and willing to be involved in our association. He has offered to attend our October 15th meeting in Mora to introduce himself and explain how the MSHSL works and how we can best work together.

For your information, the State Meet change proposals that were submitted by August 1st are:

  1. Proposal to change the tie-breaker rule (submitted by Andrew Hansen, Wayzata)
  2. Proposal to change the order of events (submitted by Jacob Polland - Washburn)
  3. Proposal to increase the number of individual qualifiers (submitted by Jacob Polland - Washburn)
  4. Proposal to change the substitution rule (submitted by Bonnie Fuller-Kask - Duluth East)
  5. Proposal to increase the number of medals to include alternates (submitted by Bonnie Fuller-Kask - Duluth East)

Charlie indicated to us that some of these proposals do not need to be submitted to the MSHSL board. He will explain in more detail on Oct. 15th.

I will send an email in early September with copies of the detailed proposals attached. We will be voting on these proposals at our Fall meeting on October 15th.

We will be electing a President and President-elect at the Fall meeting. We currently have one nominee for President, Andrew Hansen, head coach for Wayzata. Thank you Andrew. We are looking for additional candidates so please send nominations my way. Dave Johnson, Duluth Marshall, has volunteered to be the acting Past-President for the next two years. Thanks Dave.

It's time to join the MN State High School Coaches' Association. Memberships run from August 1-July 31 every year. Here's a link : https://www.mshsca.org/joinnow

Our Fall Meeting was originally scheduled for October 8th, but had to be changed to October 15th due to a conflict with the Mora chalet. Mark your calendars for October 15th, Mora Vasaloppet chalet, 9:30. Please try to attend in person, it's so much better that way! A virtual option will be available. Check out our MN State High School Nordic Ski Coaches Association website for updates.

Head coaches - please share this email with assistant coaches and volunteers. Feel free to contact me if you'd like someone to be added to this email list.

Please take a minute to read our Mission Statement at the bottom of this page.

Thanks everyone! Look for an email from me in early September.

Enjoy the rest of your summer.
