Flew up to Minocqua Friday morning to ski at Winter Park. The trails that were groomed were perfect awesome and fast! Perfect temp as well 20F. Did several Base loop and Tornado Alley runs. Were a few icy spots but still full cover on these trails anyway.

What a difference a day and temps above freezing make. After near perfect conditions Monday, the strong winds and above freezing temps in Tuesday wreaked some havoc into the trails at MWP. The trails themselves are still holding up great, but unfortunately Mother Nature rained down a ton of debris into the tracks and skate deck, so bring B skis. I cut my ski short due to this, so only managed a quick ski through VO2 Max, Beaver Bond, Squirrel Tail and base loop. Base Loop is mostly debris free, and a few great sections of VO2 Max were still pristine as well. Beaver Pond was also great. With high temps I'd say get there soon after they open, but expect some crust in shaded areas. And pray for second winter to come. Thanks MWP for a great job this year!

Drove four hours from the city today to take advantage of yesterday's snowstorm. I was not disappointed. Absolutely perfect conditions with about 75% of the system groomed, and the other 25% rolled. Thank you groomers for being there for us Monday skiers. First time up to MQA WP this year, and it was excellent! Winter Park has really upped their game this year and it shows. While temps may be above 32 this week, cold temps at night should make for great morning skiing. Enjoy these last days of winter!

I skied my skate Birkie here Friday - it was windy and lots of debris was on the trail from that. I returned to ski more, and almost all of the debris was gone. There were a few places where dirt came through on an uphill, but not the debris from the day before. Grooming was great! The sunny spots were definitely getting pretty soft after (at least) two days in the sun. The shaded spots were very fast! Overall great place to ski on warm days.

I skate skied 23K of the 27K virtual Korteloppet. I was pleasantly surprised at the overall condition of the skate deck considering temperatures were in the low 40’s by the time I got on the trails around 1:00 pm. It was very windy which left a lot of debris on the trails but it was easy to ski around. However, a lot of debris had accumulated in the classic tracks so I stayed out of those. The skate deck was fast and fun on all but a few sections where the sun had soften the skate deck. It was a beautiful day of skiing. Kudos to the groomers who always do such a fantastic job even when conditions are ideal for grooming.

I did my virtual Birkie at MWP today and it was fabulous! Impeccable grooming and blue skies. The first "Birkie" that I skied on corduroy the entire way! In fact, I made the first skate tracks. Now I know what it's like to be in that elite wave! ( ha ha) They have a really nice Birkie course marked out with arrows, with special "Birkie Landmarks" along the way to entertain you! I had the trail to myself most of the way, I started shortly before 9 am. I loved the fact that they did not have K markers! They put a lot of time into making it special, but beware that the course is a tad short, only 42k.. so.. before you turn your Garmin off, ski 1 more K! Thanks so much MWP!

Came to MWP to preview some sections of the virtual course that I hadn’t skied. The grooming was immaculate, the kick perfect and I ended up accidentally just doing my virtual birkie today. The tracks were hard/fast and had some old snow under the new snow we had. I used Rex N41 over some Rode Blue and had great kick all day. I think some Nordic skiers believe we are supposed to complain about that one oak leaf at 36K or a non-skier to give the impression that things could always be better, but I can’t do it. It was freaking awesome today. I would expect the same tomorrow. Thanks MWP staff and groomers - awesome fun birkie touches along the course as well. I’m so happy we picked you for this event.

I skate skied a portion of the trail marked for the Virtual Birkie skiing all but the Nekoosa and Wolf Tracks loop. Most of the trails had not been groomed in awhile so there was a good 3” - 4” of loose snow on the skate deck making it slower going. However, the classic tracks had been skied in pretty well so classic conditions appeared to be better than skate conditions. MWP has a really nice Virtual Birkie route well marked. It should be fun.

Thursday nights 10” snowstorm has turned the trails into a winter wonderland. Our crew has been out putting in long hours every night and have now caught up with the grooming. Skiers are reporting excellent trail conditions with deep, firm classic tracks and the skate decks have finally leveled out! The snow may be slow with these arctic temperatures, but the trails are gorgeous!

Skied the XC-Express, Silver Strider, Mellow Meadow, Island Hop, and others. Excellent tracks and skate track. Very cold temps but 9-10” fresh snow made for beautiful scenery while skiing.
