We skied the ungroomed north loops this morning and then skied around on the lake. Snow cover was surprisingly good on the trail. I only say B skis because there was one spot where there was some grass showing, and I assume that grew after we saw it. We were there early enough that we were still able to crust ski, but I'm sure it got mushy later. People had snowshoed on part of the ski trail, so it was a little lumpy there, but still very skiable. We didn't check out the south loops so I can't tell you how they are.

I skied all the trails at Boulder Lake Sunday morning and early afternoon. There are some stray rocks in the trail, and under some trees the snow is melting out but these are easy to see and avoid. You have to take your skis off to cross two stretches of about 10 yards each on Nine Pine. Otherwise the trails were in really good shape. Bear Paw and Lonesome Grouse were probably the best, and Nine Pine was probably the worst. The classic tracks were great on Lonesome Grouse, but they are melted out in spots on the other trails in open areas. Because the trail system is pretty flat, it is easy to avoid melted spots and the skate deck is holding up pretty well throughout. The lake wasn't hard enough for crust skiing Sunday mornings but might be if the overnight temps get lower. By 1pm or so the sun had heated up the trails to make for some slushy "stop and go" between the fast shaded parts of the trail and the sun blasted parts of the trail. Overall, if you get out there soon, there is still great skiing to be had! I would target mid morning, so the snow is not icy, but not slushy. This is a really fun spring skiing destination, the flat terrain made me feel fast.

Just an amazing day at Boulder! Started out classic skiing at 11:00 and tracks were good - not icy. By 12:30 there were a few small bare areas in the tracks so recommend getting out early. Some skier must have been having a better time than we were as there was a champagne bottle in the tree. Enjoy the spring ski!

Went for a skate at dusk. Temp just below freezing. The trail is almost entirely covered, with a small bare spot here and there and a larger bare spot you can't really ski around at the far end of Nine Pine. It was crisp but not icy. A little rutted in the patches that get a lot of sun. I hopped into the tracks a couple of times and they were still deep and firm in most places. We saw two kills on the trail, and we saw a live snowshoe hare bounding across the trail. I've seen their tracks so many times but so rarely get to see the actual critter. We also tried to skate on the lake but the snow was still too deep and soft for skating. Would be fine for kick skiing.

Sunny,31 degrees when I started just after 9. Skied Blue Ox and Bear Paw, tracks were set well considering our recent warm-up. Little debris on the trail. Came upon a fairly recent wolf kill of a deer on Blue Ox. Crimson red with a lot of deer fur scattered about, suspect carcass was hauled into the woods. Enjoy!

Spring dawn skis are just the best. I skied Boulder yesterday afternoon so I knew the classic tracks were primo (skate lanes great, too), and this morning I stayed with laps around Bear Paw and Blue Ox, as there were just a couple of bare spots on Nine Pine yesterday. 20 F when I got there about 6:40 and 25 F when I left at 8:40. A very old hard wax tube of Swix blue gave great kick.

Skied Lonesome Grouse twice about 9 am. Track was in excellent condition except for several icy spots. There was a big aspen tree across the trail at about the 2 km mark. Still good snow coverage and minimal debris even after yesterday’s high winds.

Overall, Boulder is in great shape. The skate deck was good in shadier spots. There was some debris from yesterday’s wind, but nothing crazy. Nine Pine, however, kicked my butt. The large open areas became increasingly soft and exhausting under the Arizona-like sun. I started at 11:45 am, a wee bit late. Will we still be doing this in 10 days? Seems iffy. Bald spots on a couple areas in Nine Pine, easily avoided, suggest an early conclusion to the season. Get out there in the mornings and enjoy.

I arrived around noon shortly after Otter Run was groomed. There had been a light snowfall the previous day and evening. The track was in excellent condition, with just a couple of tiny thin spots to avoid.

Skied the Lonesome Grouse, Nine Pine, and Blue Ox trails. The tracks were generally in good shape with some debris here and there. The south portion of the Nine Pine had some rough spots near the logged area. Overall though, it was a great morning of skiing!
