Trail Reports

2022-2023 season

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Did two laps on the small loop this morning with the 110mm skis. It looks like someone was out this weekend on the big loop after the big snow last Thursday. Their tracks helped but were mostly covered by the snow from yesterday. Expect backcountry conditions that have not been packed or groomed in some time (which is totally understandable). Good backcountry skis or deep powder snowshoes.

Afternoon
Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
The rain and warm temperatures earlier this week have made the trail very icy. We will groom again when we receive more snow. Penokee is open to snowshoeing and that would be the recommended use of the trails, based on conditions!

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, Good skis ]
5 & 3K are completely cleared of overhangs from December snowstorms. Many thanks to groomers and volunteers! Lots of overhangs needed to be cut to clear trail. 5 & 3K are fully tracked and polished since I skied the 5K twice today. I consider the Penokee in top 3 skinny trails in N. Wis.

The 3 and 5 K loops have been cleared and groomed. The trails are a little uneven due to the snow pack. Track has been set for classic skiing. The 8K is open to a back country experience.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Penokee received around 8" of new snow yesterday. We were able to clear and pack the 3k loop. Conditions are still not good for skiing, as we were not able to pull the groomer yet. The trail would be great for snowshoeing this weekend!

Observation
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
We started working at Penokee this week to clear trees and brush from the December storm. The 3 Km and 5 Km loops are cleared and packed. We did not set tracks yet. There are a couple places where springs have melted the snow, and it's hasn't froze yet. Penokee is open to snowshoeing, skiing, and dogs are allowed on the trail.
