I did a last-of-the season ski this morning while it was warming up from an overnight zero degree F temperature. All the trails were hard packed and icy in spots, but a new 2 inch powder from the last two days of blow and snow made for idyllic conditions. The new stuff made it a bit slower and safer on the fast glazed downhills. There were some sun-exposed spots starting to show rocks and grass, etc., but only in a couple places. Lots of wildlife tracks on the packed snow, especially snowshoe hares. I would say one or two more days in the mornings would be great on the trail, but it is going to warm up quickly. Thanks again to the Laurentian Trail crew (Roxanne, Dave, etc.) for their hard work this season.

Was a great way to end my season. Started out at the Hoyt Lakes parking lot but too icy and hilly, at 10:00 a.m., so came to the trailhead. Was just right as the tracks had just started to soften up. Went about three kilometers past the number one signpost and ran out of pine trees so turned around and came back. Didn't fall over once even though there were more than a few soft spots on Hills. Got done at 3:00 p.m. and was pretty warm out. Glad I put Glide wax from head to tail or everything would have stuck to my skis and I would have had to walk back. Really grateful to the US Forest Service crew for grooming this yesterday.

I skied the trail in the morning, in the vicinity of the shelter near Lillian Lake. Good base, but after a 3 to 5 inch snowfall last week, there were some deep drifts on the trails in some spots, especially near the shelter due to winds off the lake. Because of the higher angle of the sun now, the snow gets stickier early in the day. Wax accordingly.

I skied the Bird Lake Trail and it was groomed Monday right after a snow during the weekend. Excellent conditions. Thanks for the efforts of the Laurentian District grooming crew!

The tracks, on one through eight, were set perfectly for a great day of skiing. Had a lot of nice easy downhill runs for great variety. No debris on the trails at all. A lot of deer tracks on segments one through two.

The Laurentian crew (Roxanne, etc.) did a great job of re-grooming the trail this week after some new snow. Most trails are open. Excellent conditions. Ski now.

Trail conditions are good, still some debris. All segments were freshly groomed after the inch of snow overnight.
