Observation
[ Trails Open: Most ]
Word is the trails are still skiable, but no grooming has been done for a little while. Timing will be important with the freeze / thaw weather we have had. On Saturday, March 25th, the club is having a group ski event on one of the nearby lakes (Birch Island). Meet at the back parking lot of the clubhouse at 9am and plan for about a 2 hour ski. Wax less skis, or maybe skate skis if crust skiing, would be recommended as there will be no tracks set on the lake.

Firsthand: Classic

Classical ski on Hanscom trail was really enjoyable today. While the grooming was backwoods and narrow, the trail itself was firm with good tracks. I enjoyed it so much I ran it 4 times. My wife also did the trail to the side on snowshoes. Keep up the good work.

Observation

Saw the groomer go by on Hansom trail Tuesdsy night setting tracks. Trail looked good from my quick observation. I will update again once I get a chance to ski the trails or get a status update from the club and volunteer groomers.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Golf course trails are very good for classical skiing, a little blown over in open spots but generally they are firm and good. Hanscom trail is not groomed. I wish they would groom the woods trails, the past two years they have been groomed poorly but in the years past they were groomed really nice. Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
No new grooming, but the golf course trail was still in good shape. Only a few windblown spots, with most of them being on the back nine. Classic track was a little shallow in spots, but otherwise good. Skate deck looked the best is has all season. Hanscom trail had a skied in track. Just a reminder that the golf course trails (front and back nine) are the only trails groomed for skate skiing. All the other trails will be very narrow to try to skate.

Afternoon
Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
The wind today made it hard for the groomers, so only the front nine was tracked. Sounds like there will be some drifting on the trail. Also, some snowmobiles were driving on the golf course trail again today. If you know people who snowmobile in the area, please ask them to stay off the ski trails.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Muellner and Betty trails are groomed with lots of snow. Both trails are classical only. Neither trail is safe to ski at this time. The groomed surface is really narrow, around 3-4' wide, and outside of that are the tracks that are much deeper, in some places more than a foot deeper. When you go down hills with turns it is not possible to stay in the tracks and you end up in the deep rutted machine tracks. If you ski these trails, be ready take some hard falls. It is not possible to snow plow down the hills because of the really uneven trail with a narrow high center and deep ruts on the sides. Also be aware poles will frequently plant up to 2 feet down into the snow. It is sad to see such a nice trail system with so much snow but inadequate and unsafe grooming practices. [ Note: The trails mentioned are multi-use trails -- Ed. ]

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Went out on the skate trails this morning and was the only one there. Snow conditions are great with lots of snow and very little debris. The skate deck, however, hasn't been groomed lately and was very choppy and uneven. There was one section where the classic tracks actually moved into the skate deck area, making the skate deck almost too narrow to skate. The classic tracks looked good so may be the better option until the skate deck is regroomed. Beautiful morning to get out.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
The trail was in good condition. Classic tracks were solid throughout the trail with only a few washed out sections. Some sections of the trail were almost icy while others were almost soft, so you got a bit of eveything out there today. Skate deck looked improved with only a few rough sections.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Trail is in good condition overall. The classic tracks are solid along most of the trail with only a few soft spots. The skate deck looked more level compared to last weekend, but the outside edge look a bit soft (appeared to only be rolled near the far edge). The new snow covered the vast majority of tree debris, so you could use nicer skis if you mind the road crossings.
