2020-2021 season

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
This is for all the die hard south Wirth ski trails skiers, myself included. The Norm oakvik trail is still skiable today. However I didn't attempt the Antwatin and Erickson trails as the start of them had a strip of bare ground that you would have to side step over or remove your skis. I was able to start at the Pavillion dirt parking lot on the south side of Glenwood Ave do the Norm oakvik and come back.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Ice, slush and ungroomed trails await at Wirth beach and golf course. After battling for a mere 3k we headed home. Beautiful weather. Sad we don’t have more snow.

Firsthand: Classic

Classic skied starting at Beach House. Little to none groomed tracks. Very icy. Two young couples skate skied easily by me. Perhaps better later in days when trails warm? Quit after 20 minutes.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Had a great time skiing this morning! Great sun - mild temp (which I hate and love). The classic tracks are shallow in many areas...and completely gone in a few other areas. The thaw/refreeze caused some narrowing here and there.

Beautiful corduroy this morning and snow on the trees. Skied before it got above freezing. Very good skating. No classic on Quaking Bog but there were in Eloise Butler side of road.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Skate lanes groomed towards the end of the light snowfall in bog, Butler, Brownie. Classic track reset in a few spots. The road dirt that had been brought in by shoes, bikes, and work vehicles is covered for now.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skate deck groomed on all trails south of Glenwood, single pass in bog trails, double pass elsewhere. Did not reset the classic tracks which are still in OK shape. 394 bridge snow is very dirty from road slop that got thrown onto the snow. Anwatin pond can be crossed on skis, but it is very thin, not groomed, and be careful skiing onto the lake as you finish the turn on ice. Right now the grooming is skipping the pond and the open field by Anwatin. Overall trails are in great shape and the icy downhills in Butler of last week are rehabbed and in good shape again.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Nice classic ski through Bog, Eloise Butler, Wirth Lake, and JD Rivers trails. Classic tracks were mostly holding up well, with a thin layer of snow on top. Some portions, particularly around curves, were pretty washed out. Skate deck looked good, but was also covered with a layer of new snow.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Flower gardens course was graded with PistenBully tonight to address the ice and berms on the downhills. The entire course there is wide and flat now. Classic track was then reset with snowmobile which in most places got adequate depth. Please note that we are not yet grooming Anwatain loop since the pond flooded. The reroute is evident if you follow the new classic track. West of the parkway the skate deck in bog and Brownie were groomed by snowmobile.

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Really nice conditions on Eloise Butler and Bog trails this afternoon. Classic tracks were not very deep but perfectly adequate. Snow was much faster than previous skis this week. Not sure if that was result of warmer temps or newly acquired Rex pink/green G41 glide wax. As someone else mentioned, the sharp left turn approaching Anwatin School is very icy, so be careful.
