Observation Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All ]
Came across the ski trails in multiple places while snowshoeing. These were the sections of trail that follow the river. Trails are groomed but for the most part not tracked. There was a lot of foot traffic on the trails in some parts. Trails were mixed with leaf debris and dirt. The state park website says trail conditions are good, which might be true for other sections of the trails. From what I saw, I would give it a fair condition, which could be because this was the part of the trail that was close to the hiking trail. I'd recommend rock skis based on trail observations.

Firsthand: Classic
[ Good skis ]
Skied the north west trails of Cascade up to Lookout, and while the lower portion (skating tracks to Lutsen) had a bit of snowshoe/fat bike/foot traffic, the upper portion was less so and made for nice skiing - and scenic.

[ Trails Open: Partial, Rock skis ]
East of the river, a loop was groomed (no tracks) to the top of Moose Mountain. Also heard the stretch by the lake was groomed. Notably, the connector to Bally Creek was not groomed (trail ends at the top of Moose). Conditions were variable, with great coverage at the top of the hill and many exposed roots and rocks near the bottom. Many places to catch a ski tip on the edge of the trail as well. The ski was definitely worth the views at the top though!
