Notes

A great hilly trail system completely in the woods. Because of the woods, the trails hold their snow better than most.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Ungroomed but skier tracked. Soft, sticky and slow with the inch or two of new snow. No bare spots, rocks, ice or puddles. Tracks were wet and slushy in some places. Was able to kick and glide with the old fishscales if I stayed in the track. Waxless skis are a must.
I don't think you could skate. Conditions were not great, but a nice sunny day with a light coating of snow on the trees. And of course the calendar is ticking.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Used Salomon RC8 Skins, Glide wax was Swix HS7. No treatment on skins. Snow got progressively slower as the snow fell. Pretty pleasant to ski in falling snow and mild temps. I took the opportunity to inform several walkers about ski trail use and also how the county feels about unleashed dogs. Skied inner and outer loops. Skins slipped over the few leaves better than my waxables did yesterday. I also PR'ed up a couple of hills on them. Classic tracks are firm but shallow, Skate deck still looks great. Didn't meet too many skiers on the trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Bright sun and warmer temperatures made for a different outing than the last couple of weeks. Course was just packed yesterday, with no bare spots. Skate deck looked nice and firm, making me wish I had brought my skaters. Classic tracks were firm but shallow. so the ended up being a little too wide. Man hole cover on the east side was completely covered so watch out on the skate deck. I used Toko Performance Blue for Glide and started with Start Green Pine Tar wax for kick. but that was insufficient so I ended up with Swix Blue Extra which sacrificed some glide but made the uphills easier. Someone set up their own "No hikers on the trails" signs using left over campaign signs. That must have been enough to scare off most of the walkers because I only saw one set of boot tracks on a beautiful day.

Morning
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skied here for my first time this morning and what a great set of hilly trails. I classic skied everything. Classic tracks were fresh and consistent, but pretty shallow. Skate deck looked good throughout.

First time skiing this area and what a fun challenge! With the new coating of snow and a good base underneath...and my newly waxed skis, what a great workout! If you like some challenging hills, this is a good area to try out!

Great conditions today! Where is everyone? There were two other cars in the parking lot. The skate deck is generally in excellent shape, and the trees kept any wind at bay. This was my first time here and it is now one of my favorites.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic skied all of the trails in the evening. Tracks were 'ok' in most places (albeit shallow) with some stretches that were washed out or had been obliterated by skaters. Some leaves here and there but not bad and mostly easily avoided by jumping on the deck. Many of the more gradual uphills had damage from skaters and were therefore more difficult to stride up. In general the classic skiing is solid but tracks need to be reset (and skaters need to stop skating on the tracks!). Great place to shelter from the wind.

Skied all the trails. All still in very good shape for both classic and skate. No ice. Some leaves, but not bad. Classic tracks a bit shallow in places, but not bad. Saw the Burnsville Nordic Teams practicing between 4:00 and 5:00 pm.

Very enjoyable ski today with the sun out and shelter in the woods from the wind. Tracks shallow, but very good and skiable. A few sporadic leaves, but nothing bothersome to detract from classic technique. Skate deck excellent.

Skied the outer loop and the short inner loop. Very well groomed for classic with well set tracks throughout. There were the usual oak leaves scattered about but nothing annoying. The skate deck looked to be well groomed with evidence of some use. The cold seems to be keeping away any walkers!
