Most of the trails are on the golf course, thus pretty open and fairly flat. The course really winds back and forth.

Observation

Sticky ungroomed snow as of 1:32pm. Only brought skate skis so didn't ski.

Good overall and fast. Skied before the air temp was above freezing but sunshine was the driver of icy or slower sections - icy in the shade and softer in the direct sun. Good cord still to be seen and a little soft due to the deep snow - a few soft ruts here and there but good ski control.

Classic skis with fish scales. Tracks set and in great shape; groomers did an awesome job. Icy at times (glad I went with the fish scales) exciting on the downhills.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Set a new classic track and skate deck. Trail overall is still in great shape with a good base. There is two spots where the trail will be a little slushy when the temps are above freezing. Fixed the parts of the trail where the tree removal trucks crossed the trail. Get out and enjoy some spring skiing!

Skate deck is holding up really well. Firm, but not icy. As mentioned in previous update, there is one patch where the trail parallels Wheelock that got chewed up from the park maintenance cutting/trimming trees (photos), and one patch that is icy/melty near the fences. It was firm when I skied at noon, but presume it will get slushy warm up.

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Cold morning with temps and conditions changing rapidly. Set a new classic track and skate deck. Trail is 90% in good shape with some exceptions. A few areas of slush/ice and four spots where ongoing tree work crosses the trail with some deep ruts from trucks. Take caution with these areas and tree work should be completed in the next few days. Spring is around the corner..... get out and enjoy!

The skate deck is well groomed and only soft in a few areas. Excellent work by the grooming crew to get this course into great condition after the recent 1 foot of snow - thank you! Please be very cautious! The tree removing trucks/equipment left one very large area of deep tire tracks towards then end of the loop (see pictures). I saw several skiers fall in this area. There are about four other areas of single tire tracks that should not be a problem.

Was out over lunch, conditions were kind of beautiful really. Expected a soft skate deck, but found it reasonably firm in that my skis track perfect kind of way. Truck tracks across the trail in a few places because of tree removals going on, not a big deal though.

Thank you, groomers, for making this newby skate skier feel like I might actually get this thing! Absolutely beautiful day.

Beautiful ski at Phalen. Thanks to the groomers, fantastic conditions. Skiing on wood skis and couldn't be better.
