Trail Reports

2020-2021 season
Reports 2 to 11 of 17    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec
Wednesday, February 24, 2021
Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Ski trails re-groomed after three inches of dry snow on Tuesday evening.  The skating lane was combed.  One inch edging on new snow that was packed and combed over a firm icy base.  Classical tracks reset and they are firm and well formed.  Work on the Fargo water plant intake structure ( by the lift station - 13th Ave S ) impacted sections of both trails where vehicles needed access to the river.  Snow was removed and then replaced on trails after the work was completed except on the south 'hill' section right by the out-flow pipe.  The replaced snow has dirt mixed in and is icy.

Observation
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skating lane combed early this morning after a quarter inch of new dry fine-grained snow on Wednesday. A half to one inch fresh combed deck for edging with a mix of the new snow and old. Some exposed areas are thin and icy. Classical tracks are firm and well-formed. The dusting of snow helped cover up the leaves, bark, seeds, twigs that have blown into the track since the last grooming.

The classical track was renovated and tracks reset early this morning after a trace of new wind-blown snow in the past couple of days. The tracks were firm and well formed except in a few exposed areas where they are thin and icy. The bottom of the tracks vary from renovated silky sugar snow to a mix of renovated crusty snow. A few short sections where dirt or leaves have been exposed by the renovator. Skating lane renovated and combed this morning. An inch of edging on a mix of new and crusty snow except in a few exposed areas or sections under trees where it can be icy. Twenty-two inches of snow for season with four to six in sheltered areas on the ground. Three inch compacted base.

Skied the north classic trail today and they were great! No grass was peaking through, in a few places the tracks were washed out. Still a good amount of snow on the trails.

Skied the south classic trail and it wasn't bad. Some leaves and bark have fallen which catch your skis along the way. There were a few times where I could see dirt coming through the snow, so just watch out for those spots and you will be fine. Trails were groomed well.

Trails were great again! Some snow blowing over, making it feel a little slower than normal, but no grass or anything peeking through. Classic trails looked great as well.

Skate trails were great this morning! A little bit of snow has blown over, but nothing terrible. No ground showing and not icy. From what I could see, it looked like the classic trails were a bit old and choppy, but good enough to ski. Super smooth and plenty of room on the trail.
