Trail Detail
Notes
The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.Trail Reports

Observation [ Trails Open: All ]
|
Skied the loops at OO this afternoon. Perfectly groomed for skate and classic. Observed fresh grooming on one side of the Birkie skate trail heading north - skate deck and one classic track. Not sure how far it goes - probably at least to Boedecker. Also observed some grooming going south beyond "picnic table hill". Crew will likely update when they've finished, but for evening skiing there is more than just the loops.

I skated northbound from Hwy OO, on the Classic trail. It had been lightly traveled since the last grooming, so conditions were excellent. There was only one classic track, it also appeared to be excellent. As I was leaving, around 11:00, it started to snow, you bet.

Skied south of OO to Gravel Pit and then back up to OO where we did some loops on OO trails. It is all groomed south to Gravel pit and north on both Skate and Classic Trails to Timber trailhead. Groomers have done a great job taking this from hard packed to beautiful skiing as both classic track and skate deck are great. Great job groomers. Sun even came out today!

Classic trail from OO to Fire Tower was groomed today and tracks were reset on the Easy Strider loops. Reports from the trail are great!

Skied from Mosquito Brook north for 9-10K. No grooming in several days. Lots of forest litter too. Needs grooming badly.

Skied north and south from Boedecker Trail Head and the grooming has held up fairly well from yesterday's Pre Birkie groom. Classic tracks look excellent north of OO and skate deck is mostly very good but getting pounded down in the middle. Uphills and flats very skiable and most of the downhills are manageable with a little caution. South of OO is a different story as it has not been groomed since Feb. 5 so it is icy and hard. Classic trail hard and lots of debris. Not fun south of OO. Hope they get out and groom part of it soon.

Skied from Mosquito Brook north to OO and back. Trails were hard though surface had 1/2" of fluff so control wasn't terrible. Surface was more squirrelly on the way back south as the trail got more traffic and the fluff was gone, especially under the pines. Bonus climb south up B hill, which had been groomed and was a nice contrast with a soft surface after being on hard deck all morning. A lot of skiers out by noon, all enjoying the day.

Skied Mosquito Brook to Gravel Pit on Wednesday and Mosquito Brook to Hatchery Creek (Hwy 77), with a round trip. Grooming is great, tracks are hard and icy, with lots of leaves and twigs in the tracks to grab your skis. Hence I suggest your B skis. Hoping for snow to cover the debris, but not complaining.
