Notes

The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
There’s a little bit of fresh snow out there this morning. Trail crew is busy working on some brushing projects in preparation for the events this weekend. We just finished grooming the loops at OO. The fresh snow on top of the hard skate deck and fresh tracks should provide great skiing. Enjoy!

Two inches of sticky snow fell last night and the groomers are out, you bet. I skied north from the OO trailhead, on the Skate trail. The skate deck was in excellent condition although just a bit soft. The classic track was newly groomed on one side. When I was there the Classic trail and the southbound trail hadn't yet been groomed.

I skied north from the OO trailhead, on the Classic trail. There was 1/2 inch of fluffy snow last night and the skate deck was groomed after that, so conditions were very good, you bet. The classic tracks had not been reset, but looked to be in pretty good condition.

Traveled OO to Hatchery and back. Classic skied but spent 90% out of the tracks. Skate deck hard and firm. Classic tracks nice in spots but 90% were unusable because of forest fairys. Was cold but sun out all day. Just nice to get out and ski. Beware of huge rut in trail just north of Hatchery at bottom of first big hill after B Hill. Erosion almost completely across trail and several inches deep.

From the Prince Start, through Mosquito Brook, to Gravel Pit, skied classic. Trails fantastic, but lots of leafs in the trail. No worries, great day for skiing.

I skied the OO to Boedecker loop this afternoon heading north on the classic trail and back on the skate trail. The trail is in fantastic shape for skating. Some accumulated leaf litter in the classic tracks. We ran Into the groomer heading south on the classic trail so the grooming was fresh and soft enough that the skiing was actually a little better on the ungroomed sections of the classic trail. The skate trail had set up properly so it is firm and fast.

I skied north from the OO trailhead on the Skate trail. The skate deck was in excellent condition, you bet. The classic track was not recently groomed and has collected some leaves. I took a look at the northbound Classic trail and it appeared to be in similar condition.

We groomed the skate trail from OO to the start Thursday night. The goal is to do some more grooming Friday morning - we’ll let you know as soon as that happens.

Skied north from Mosquito Brook to OO. Hard frozen corduroy all the way. The tracks were pretty well plugged with oak leaves. Skating was about as good as it gets.

The loops at the OO trailhead are recently groomed and (as yet) lightly travelled. The skate deck is in good condition although there's a moderate amount of leaves, acorn hats, and other litter. The classic tracks on some of the loops are groomed and have some leaves, but others are beat up and have a lot of leaves, you bet. The trails north of OO do not appear to be recently groomed.
