Notes

The famous Birkie trail. A great, rolling trail through the woods between Cable and Hayward. There is a short section south at Hwy OO that is lighted. There are snowmaking trails at the Start area.

We skied from the start to Timber Trail on the Classic. We had three portages. Skiing was very good otherwise. The North End trails were in good condition and the Skate trail was in great shape. Had to help change a couple tires on the way back.

Gravel pit to Hwy OO. Took off skis at 21 and 22 k mark on the way out, and a total of 5 times on the way back due to bare ground. Otherwise trail was very nice and very skiable. Preferred closer to gravel pit as the had been less use and there were fewer icy areas. If you want to ski again, go for it!

Skied from The Brook to Gravel Pit Road. Were a few bare spots with ribbons of snow but did not have to take our skis off. 99% of the trail was amazing - almost like crust skiing. I was surprised how good it was.

Fresh snow last night on the Birkie trail. I skied the trailhead and it was beautiful. Snow was wet and slow. But a great day!

Well not sure is if this will help anyone enjoy a Birkie trail ski for a bit, but maybe it will serve as a marker a few days from now. Skated from Mosquito Brook to Hatchery Creek and back. Complete trail snow coverage whole way, no need to ever ski portage or really any bare spots to dodge. A few pinecones. Seemed like 4-5" base still there. Still hard enough to ski on and not leave ruts. Just as I skied back to cabin and was taking off skis when it started to rain, rain and rain.

Started at Gravel Pit and skied north. Most of the trail was in excellent condition. We had to take our skis off one time. There were a few places that had bare spots but we were able to ski around them.

Skied from the Birkie trail head in Cable. Artificial snow loops are in great condition, especially those used for the Wisconsin State Meet yesterday. Birkie Classic and North End trails in Cable all in fine condition. It’s a bit soft and places with some tree debris from yesterday‘s wind. A treat to be out on these fine trails.

Skied yesterday and today from Boedecker south to "rocks". Still full coverage on both skate and classic trails. Tracks are intact but vary from shallow to deep. Skate deck is smooth. Still decent skiing if you hit the right temperature in the morning! Did not ski to the clear cut area so not sure what conditions are like there.

Skied from Mosquito Brook to OO. Was pleasantly surprised by the courderoy on the trail. 98% snow covered. Couple patches missing snow, but easily skied past on other portion of trail width. Skate skied. Classic tracks were present. Started ski at 10am and finished at 12:30. By noon, the snow became a little slower.

Excellent conditions for skating and classic. This morning I left the North End trails and skied South to the High Point on the Birkie skate trail. The skate trail was freshly groomed with one PB pass and included a fresh full depth classic track. I finished after noon and by then, the areas in full sun were getting soft. But there is a window of about two hours in the morning before the temps warm up too much when the snow is still magic.
