Trail Detail
Notes
Trails range from easy, such as the Purple Trail running along the Willow River, to the challenging Brown and Silver trails. Trails are groomed for both classical and skate skiing. All grooming is done by volunteer groomers who pride themselves in providing the best possible conditions.Trail Reports

One of the grooming tow vehicles is down. Grooming will just take longer with only one grooming unit on the trails. You mignt want to have a Plan B for Saturday morning if Willow is your destination.

All trails were rolled Wednesday evening. Classic tracks were preserved but not reset as the new snow was well skied in.

Grooming Scheduling [ Trails Open: All, ]

The park received 2-3 inches of new snow overnight. Due to equipment problems, no grooming will occur until at this evening, at the earliest. The classic track is in good shape with the skate deck slow, covered in uncompacted snow.

All of Willow's trails were groomed and tracked. There are still a few drift remnants but overall the snow has set up nicely.

There were lots of large drifts in the ski trails Sunday morning. Grooming consisted of using the homemade drag to knock down the drifts. Right now the ski trails are pretty messed up from the drag. Most trails have a skied-in track but the skate deck is full of loose, soft snow. No further grooming is planned today due to the continued blowing and drifting.

Firsthand: Classic [ Trails Open: All, ]

Classic track skiing was a bit soft due to the dry snow. It is firming up and blowing out. Between two trips today I was on the Purple, Green, Brown, and Blue, just to the Blue return link and out. The Brown has no track. It still skied fast enough on skins to fly the S turn. In my opinion, track just gets in the way on a black diamond downhill. The double drop at the bottom was also quite fast. I carried glide to the culvert. On the Blue, the downhill S turn was blown up just out of the campground. Both skis lost track so I stepped it left to clip the last turn and ski on the deck down the straight run. On the return loop exit, there is a body print on the left turning downhill. I lost one track running through the body print but reset the ski okay. The blue diamond Blue trail was on the more difficult side of intermediate today. Fun stuff at Willow.

Grooming Lost/Found [ Trails Open: All, ]
|
All of the trails were groomed and tracked Thursday morning. The skate deck is a bit soft in places but should firm up with skier use and overnight temps. A pair of Swix ski poles was found at Willow. If they're yours, call the park office to arrange pickup.

The skate deck on all trails was regroomed to level out the berms left after the last snow event and add some "bite" to the surface. The classic track continues to be in excellent condition.
