Brand new trail! It's a fun loop. 4.6k when you do both loops. The "intermediate" loop (I think that's what it is being called) is rolling hills and sharp corners. Very fun! The rest is still a little hilly with more straightaways. The course winds around the ponds and trees. A very nice course a little bit like Hiawatha. The track was firm and fresh corduroy. Nearly perfect but with a few wobbles here and there. There were a few high spots where the snow has blown away or melted. There are areas with significant leaves and sticks. Overall most has a good base and is very skiable. B skis for the areas with sticks.

I usually ski the Highland 9 hole but I read about this new course here this morning and decided to check it out. I think it is excellent. You can park in the club's parking lot and simply walk on to the course. It is groomed for skate and classic. There are two classic tracks going in parallel on the right. The direction appears to be counter clockwise. The beginner course was freshly groomed this morning. The advanced portion was a little powdered over but in very good condition. Some surface was broken by hikers and dog walkers in spots but not enough to take away from the excitement of trying this new course. Both sections are flatter and longer than 9 hole's and make for a perfect "work on your technique" course. Thank you groomers and thank you city of Saint Paul for adding this gem to the ski trail system.

The 18 hole has improved significantly since its first groom, although the classic and skate deck still have some bare spots. Come check out the City of St. Paul's newest trail!

How cool is this!? More skiing right in the heart of St. Paul. I saw the reports for Highland National Golf Course and wrongly thought someone was misattributing reports for Highland 9-Hole, but alas we do in fact have two skiing options right next to one another. What I love about this new option is how flat it is... there is a "beginner" and "intermediate" loop, but all of it is super flat... even flatter than Highland 9 right across the street. Lots of people need a flat course when they are starting out and this is a great option for those folks. As for today's conditions, very soft and sticky (just the reality of the warm weather) with a few bare spots that are easy to step around. Really great option and excited that St. Paul is investing in cross country.

Skied the full loop and it is going to be awesome after some colder temps help set it up. It's currently pretty soft from both warm temps and not a lot of compaction from use. The course flows nicely though. Great job groomers and City of St Paul!

Grooming

Welcome to cross county skiing at the Highland National Golf course. The 18 hole has finally been groomed. There were lots of wind drifts, and grass exposure. Did our best trying to knock them all down and put the trail in decent snow. Classic is anywhere between one and 2 inches with grass exposure in many areas. Skate deck is 2 to 4 inches with the occasional washboard and snow drift bumps. Grooming plans: Plan to be re-groomed tomorrow morning. Hopefully we can shape it better when it's colder.

Not groomed, but there were skied in classic tracks around the course. Good coverage, not much drifting. I used rock skis, but didn't hit anything.

Classic trails were mixed, many spots with nicely defined trails, but some spots where the trails vanish or could use better grooming. Good depth to the snow, only a few spots on wind-ward side of the hills with exposed grass. Overall in decent shape, definitely skiable, just have to carve your own path for some short lengths.
