Skate skied the outer green and outer purple trails this afternoon with my adult son. The skate deck was in excellent shape, but the snow conditions were very soft and very wet. The temperature was above freezing and the wet snow tended to bog down your speed.

Classic tracks and skate deck had been tracked and groomed when we arrived at 10 AM. Great conditions due to the wonderful grooming job.

My wife and I classic skied the red and green trails today. Conditions were perfect and it was a beautiful sunny day. The tracks were freshly groomed and in great shape. The recent new snowfall has made a tremendous difference in the trail conditions. The classic trails had very little to no debris. The hills were fast and yet soft enough to herringbone with no problem.

There was 3-4” of new snow and the groomers did a fantastic job of grooming the trails today. I skated the outer purple and inner green trails and they were in incredible condition. In fact, the best condition I’ve seen this year. There was brand new corduroy on the skate deck and the classic tracks had no debris and looked great. It was perfect conditions today, as compared to very icy conditions and a lack of snow yesterday, while classic skiing. It’s amazing how 3-4” of snow can completely change the trails.

Great to back skiing at SMF. Freshly groomed 3" of new dry snow made for smooth but slow conditions. I did not venture out on the purple connector or yellow as they were being groomed while I was there. The red, green and inner purple trails were in really great shape. I used my B skis, not knowing what the conditions would be like, but you could use your good skis if you are careful in the usual thinner spots under the big pines. The small amount of new snow has made a big difference in the conditions. Thank you SMF groomers for working on a Sunday morning!

Ski trails they have been really icy and have a fair amount of debris but we are hoping to groom Sunday if we receive any snow Saturday night.

I went classic skiing today on part of the green and inner purple trails. The skiing was terrible. There was tons of debris in the tracks, including pinecones, needles and twigs. It was very frustrating, because you could not get any kind of a glide going unless you were in a wide open area, which is rare. Your skis would stop in the tracks because of the debris. I ended up skate skiing for most of the time just to be able to ski. The tracks were very icy, too. Skate skiing deck looked pretty good and was doable.

Surprisingly decent for skate, in spite of a thin, hard base. We're still having a pretty good time skiing on snow that fell in Superior before Christmas. Kudos to the groomers for exercising restraint and scratching the surface just enough to wipe out the ruts and allow safe edging. Classic tracks are old and hard, of course. Most of the trails are pretty well covered, but the usual thin and dirty spots are slowly growing, especially in the pines. A new and unwelcome hazard are angular, olive-sized stones that were placed in the "tee boxes" of the disc golf course over the summer. Unfortunately, grooming appears to have pulled up several of these rocks in a few places along the outer green and purple trails where they come near 42nd St. Beware anywhere you see signs for the disc golf course. B skis are probably appropriate for those watching their step. Those intending to ski with reckless abandon should employ rock skis.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Trails overall have surprised us and have recovered well from the warm weather and rain last week. Only a few normal bare spots throughout the system but generally skiers are reporting good and fast conditions. All of the trails skate decks have been groomed and skate deck will be touched up as weather allows.
