Made a single pass around Hiram ski trail this afternoon to reset the track after the weekend ski traffic. Trail is in very good condition overall. The hills in the newly logged areas still have a very thin base so the track is shallow and not well formed there. Some oak leaves mixed into the snow but not enough to be a problem yet. You could probably use your good skis if you watch out for the thin spots on some of the hills.

Groomed and set new track this morning after a couple inches of new snow Wednesday night. The strong winds yesterday brought down lots of oak leaves and small white pine branches. There was enough new snow so leaves and needles are pretty well mixed into the snow and won't cause a problem. The conditions are very good overall except for the hills through the newly logged areas where the base is still very thin. Grass, leaves and dirt are showing through the track in those areas which is why I gave it a B skis rating.

Three inches of new snow, groomer was getting there as I finished at 3:30 pm today. Yes it's been logged but it's still beautiful. One tree down that was easy to go around on the first loop.

Groomed and set track this afternoon after getting several inches of snow yesterday. Overall conditions are good except for the areas that were logged last spring. The trail is more exposed to wind and sunshine now in those areas so the base is still thin there with grass, leaves and stubble showing through. That's why I gave it a B skis rating. The rest of the trail you could use your best skis. Hopefully the snow will firm up overnight because it was somewhat soft when I finished grooming.

Longing to be on a trail with natural snow, I left the skate skis at home and strapped on a pair of old classics for the first time in more than a decade. Rock ski conditions to be sure, but the outing did not disappoint, offering just enough decent stretches to get a little glide and find a bit of joy. Thank you to the groomer. Let's hope for some February snowfall and the chance to get out and stride again....

Groomed and set track at Hiram ski trail this afternoon after getting around 6" of new snow. Recommend using rock skis since there are numerous areas where the track setter was getting into the grass, leaves and dirt. The groomer was wanting to slip sideways at times so the track has some kinks in it. The parking lot has not been plowed yet.

Gave Hiram ski trail it's first grooming of the season today. Had just enough snow from the storm yesterday to pack it this morning but not enough base to set a track. Track setter was getting into the leaves and grass when I tried it so I stopped. Will have to wait for more snow before setting a track. There is a lot of stubble and weeds sticking through the snow plus the occasional rock so use your rock skis. Rough conditions right now but it's very skiable if you don't mind skiing without a track.
