Trail Reports

2022-2023 season
Reports 78 to 81 of 81    Month: Apr | Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle Secondhand
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Warm temperatures and bright sunshine are taking their toll, but the trails are hanging in there! Temperature was 32F when we started this morning at 9:30 and was close to 40 when we finished at 11:30. There are some stretches that now resemble swiss cheese, but still plenty of good skiing despite the weather. Some grooming was done this morning, and Mark the groomer was going to wait until the trails harden-up before anymore will be done.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Started skiing at noon with temperatures at the start being 29F, finishing around 1:20 and the temperature has risen to about 32F. I tended to ski the shadier parts of the trail system, and I didn't see any bare spots so coverage remains good. Skate deck is softening but not a problem, and neither were the sunnier stretches where the snow was wetter. The trails have seen considerable traffic and where the snow is a little deeper they can be rougher, but here again not an issue. Still recommending rock skis, especially if the snow pack diminishes in the coming days.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Conditions similar to yesterday, but somewhat faster given the mid-20s temperatures. Still no bare spots so coverage remains quite good. Finishing up around 1 p.m. snow in some of the sunny areas was getting moist but still not so bad speed-wise.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails were packed a few days ago so there is a firm base (with corduroy) of unknown thickness. About an inch of new dry snow and drifted powder on top, drifted depths can be greater in places. No tracks have been set as there's not enough snow. Coverage is quite good. I didn't see a bare spot, and leaves and twigs are minimal. Recommend rock skis for the hidden rocks that might lie beneath, but I encountered none. The most drifted stretch is that going from the parking lot to the woods, and thereafter trails were generally fine. Remarkable conditions for this early in the season and what snow we've received so far.
