Trail Reports

2019-2020 season
Reports 20 to 29 of 30    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov
Monday, December 30, 2019
Afternoon
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Nice skiing on about one inch of new snow over a hard, but not icy, transformed base. Classic tracks were reset Monday morning before much of the new snow fell, so the new snow covered the transformed base allowing hard wax to work well, no need for klister. Some areas of soft poling on the classic track. Some oak leaves and other tree debris but not too bad.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Both Scheduling
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
A dusting of new wet snow moderated the icing effects of some rain Wednesday night and covered some of the oak leaves and tree debris. Grooming Friday will focus on preparing for school races to be held Saturday from 10 to 2.

[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Tracks were reset Friday so there were not many leaves in them. Tracks were well skied-in but not glazed or too hard yet. Skate lane in good condition too. Deer have been digging down through the snow for acorns in a few areas, usually off the groomed trail, but they did take the track out in one spot.

Groomer was out this morning thu early afternoon. Snow was surprisingly fast for the relatively softer snow conditions. Great skiing!

Trails are all tracked. Base is hard but the recent snow that came yesterday (was groomed) is still a little soft. Overall, great skiing for early December!

Arb was in very good to excellent condition. Solid tracks throughout most of trails, some leaves in certain areas but that should be cured with a little more snowfall. Seems like most of the trees have given up their leaves, more so than some years, so more snow is promising.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
A classic track has been set on all the trails except the farther Northstar loops. Track is good and firm but a few soft spots on outside where base was not packed as much. A few oak leaves and sticks and a few dirty spots but overall good clean snow. Skate deck is getting flatter and harder from some more grooming passes.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Grooming got started Sunday afternoon and by sunset all of the lighted trails and others near the lighted trails were rolled. Surface was soft right after grooming but it was firming up as it rapidly cooled off as the sun went down. Some low hanging branches and broken limbs from the snow weight. A few small areas of dirt kicked up by the groomer, but otherwise ok to use good skis.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Most trails rolled and in fairly good shape. The 4 inches of fine-grained snow packed down to about one inch. South Acorn past the two trailheads was not groomed, but there is a good skied-in track out to the field where the grooming starts.
