Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Skate lanes groomed today which softened up the hard pack. Fast old/transformed snow. Tracks are older and solid with a little newer snow in them, but also some oak leaves and other tree debris.

Firsthand: Classic

Recent grooming made for pretty good conditions. The tracks were firm, but oak leaves in certain sections tended to catch on my kick wax. The skating looked fast and just soft enough generally throughout. Nice night to go skiing.

Much better skiing than earlier in the week - still a few icy areas but the thin layer of new snow helped and it was fast and fun. North Star loop is best.

Grooming on Wednesday and Friday has done a good job of breaking up the crust and ice. A little new snow last night is mixed in with the transformed snow in the skate deck. Classic tracks are old and hard/icy with a little new snow in them.

First time skiing here while visiting Brainerd area. Fantastic and fast skiing conditions and trails tonight skiing. Loved the trails. I skated, but classic tracks were in very good shape too. Great skiing below the lights or off on the ‘dark’ trails with a headlamp. Definitely hope to get back here to ski again. Thank you Brainerd Nordic Ski Club for an epically good ski night!

Afternoon
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Classic tracks are well skied-in old snow while the skate lane is more recently groomed well-packed old snow. About 20 inches of snow in the woods, top 6 inches is untransformed old snow and the rest is transformed. Trails have about 11 inches of snow, the top 4 inches is well packed old snow and the rest is a solid transformed base. Grooming plan is to groom the skate lanes Monday and then probably not groom again until Saturday in preparation for the Lumberjack Jaunt race on Sunday, February 2.

Skate lane was groomed Friday morning after some snow Thursday and Thursday night. Tracks were set a couple of days ago and the new snow was skied-in on all the trails I skied on today.

Kudos to the groomers and keepers of the trail! Very enjoyable to ski. Trails are in great shape. Skate deck was firm everywhere. Skied a lot of untracked freshly groomed trails. A little leafy in spots, no complaints.

Tracks set on Saturday were well skied-in and getting firmer by the afternoon. Skate deck was re-groomed Sunday morning and was a little soft at first but by the evening was much better. Just a few oak leaves in some sections of the tracks.

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
A couple dustings of new snow the last two days covered the fairly hard old snow surface and tree debris and made for nicer skiing. Solids classic tracks, but a lot of oak leaves in some sections. Plenty of snow to use good skis, just issues with oak leaves and jack pine needles.
