Trail Reports

2020-2021 season
Reports 11 to 18 of 18    Month: Mar | Feb | Jan | Dec | Nov | Oct
Saturday, January 2, 2021
Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Skate deck is holding up fairly decent from last snowfall, still a little bit soft. Besides one or two thin spots, southern trails are in the best condition (best skis). A decent amount of debris on the Northern Lights loop in a couple spots (B skis). The hills were in surprisingly good condition.

Afternoon

About 6 inches of fairly fluffy powder overnight. Trails groomed and track set today. Skate deck a little soft yet, but classic track firm. Previous thin areas now well covered.

Monday, December 28, 2020
Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trail conditions are about an inch of ungroomed and skied-over new snow over a couple inches of packed old snow with a crust base. Some thin areas but mostly fairly good. Classic tracks set on most trails but often set down into leaves and dirt. Recent new snows starting to fill in track. Best conditions on most of the lighted trails and Rudy's. The most thin areas and poor track are on Potlatch, Big Ben, and Northstar.

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Rock skis ]
Most trails rolled today after an inch of new snow late yesterday. Still thin to almost bare in some areas, but much of the lighted loops have fairly good skiing.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
Trails were rolled Saturday morning. Some new snow on Friday packed down to about a half-inch. Fair skiing where there was residual crust, but very thin coverage and poor skiing were there is just powder over bare ground. Best conditions on Pioneer, Acorn, Rudy's (except big hill).

Saturday, November 28, 2020
Afternoon
Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, Bare ground ]
Conditions very poor. Long stretches of bare spots, and where there's snow, is hardened by foot traffic. The ski club has been maintaining Forestview recently and not the Arb, but snow conditions in Brainerd are not good. If you want a good ski, go to Duluth or Mt Itasca.

Decent ungroomed classic skiing after about 9 inches Tuesday night. No grooming yet. Light are on (except a couple we're working on getting fixed).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ B skis ]
Skied about noon, temp was about 34 degrees. Snow was OK - you could easily make snowballs, but with Maxiglide wax, we could easily navigate back country conditions. So if you have skis that will do that (we use Fischer Adventure 62s), you can have a great October ski. Started from the Arb parking lot and picked up the Little Ben trail taking to the Northland trail. The trees were beautiful, covered with snow. With all the snow (6 inches on the ground in Brainerd), it's a shame to let it go to waste. Was our fourth day of skiing - will try again tomorrow.
