Good snow coverage, but lots of leaves- especially in the classic tracks. B skis for sure.

Night
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Decent night, some leaves and twigs. Beautiful lit trails with the tracks decently set on Poplar and lakeside trails.

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: Most, Good skis ]
Plenty of snow on the ground and didn't see any thin spots. The classic tracks were pretty shallow but were there for 90% of the loop.

There's a gorgeous track set on all the Cleary trails! Hooray! The skate deck is very firm, having set up nicely with the colder temps. For whatever reason, the surface is not very uniform, with lots of ruts and undulations. Certainly I couldn't complain, as the woods were beautiful and the snow was pure white.

Very disappointed at Cleary. They have ample snow but the trail grooming was very poor. Very uneven and hadn't been groomed for a while. As a result the snow is hard packed and hard to get an edge. I'll skip it until more snow or until regroomed. No tracks for classic.

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ B skis ]
A tiny amount of fresh snow on a decent (if somewhat soft) base kept the trails on this overlooked gem solidly skiable. There were very few bare spots encountered on the forested loop. Thanks to the groomers who make days like today possible.

My first time out. I chanced Clearly because didn't want to deal with crowds and higher physical effort that Hyland might have required. I wasn't disappointed. 100% coverage; nearly snert free. Of course there was no track and there were leaves but nothing to slow my skate. At 32 degrees it was fast despite my 5.9 mph pace. I took it easy and walked all the uphills. I saw only two classic skiers.

Evening
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Complete snow coverage on the entire loop, but beware of sticks and leaves. Some grooves and uneven parts of the trail, but decent for natural snow this time of year. I skied the lakeside and ironwood loop. I saw the high school team practicing on the golf course too.

The entire trail system at Cleary (including the golf course) was packed but not tracked. Conditions are very soft, of course, but it was great being on natural snow in November! Even though each skating stride went through about 3" of snow I never made contact with rocks or dirt. When this sets up it'll be fantastic!

Observation
[ Trails: Closed ]
Main trail was groomed but needs more snowpack before skiing. It's looking good for a natural snow trail, about 3-4 inches in this area.
