Skated from Oberg trailhead around the Oberg loop, picnic loop, hogback, homestead and back on the connector. Conditions were the same throughout. Nice smooth frozen cord made for a fast skate. Not so hard that you couldn’t set an edge for skating up the steep hills, and screaming fast on the downhills. Tracks were firm but a bit glazed. Stay our of them on the downhills and only used them for double poling. Great day, beautiful blue skies, moderate temps. Much fun.

A truly beautiful day on the Sugarbush Trails. Parked at Britain Peak lot and skied over around Hogback and then over to the Oberg parking lot and back. Sunny skies, mid-30s, no wind. Great snow coverage and grooming. Slightly icy late morning but very skiable and pretty fast... then the sunny spots softened up a bit so you had to be careful of the transforming snow. Topped it off with a quick hike up to Britain Peak. Great ski trails, probably saw around a dozen and a half skiers, mostly around Britain Peak, quite a contrast to Birkie crowds a couple days earlier in Hayward.

We launched from the Oberg lot at noon, temperature 34F. Skied across to Hogback and then over the top on the Picnic loop. Finished with the Oberg loop for a few bonus k’s. Got back to the car at 3 pm, temperature 43F. For the first half of our ski the trail surface was slightly disturbed frozen corduroy and very fast. For the latter half we encountered warmed snow that was sticky and slow where exposed to direct sunshine. On the drive back to Grand Marais I saw 48F on my car readout. There is tons of snow up here and this warm-up will not make a dent in it!

Skied the green loop from the Oberg trailhead. Excellent grooming, both for classic and skating. No debris in the trail. Pure delight. Thanks to the groomers!

Classic skied at Sugarbush today on waxless Fischer crown skis. Trails had been mostly groomed and in excellent conditions after our new 3"s yesterday. Tracks firm and deep and deck looked great. Temps dropped as our ski went on and had a few snow squalls. Kick was great and glide seemed to vary probably with sun exposure. All in all, a fun afternoon of skiing! Thanks Sugarbush!

From Oberg trailhead, Skated Picnic, Hogback, Homestead and Connector. Snow was falling heavily but skate glide through the new snow was fine as it was only about 2 deep inches when I skied. Deck was firm underneath but tracks when double poling were soft and did not provide much guidance. Beautiful trail in the snow, but did not see a soul on the trail in spite of a parking lot half full.

Maple and Upland loops: about 2" of ungroomed powder on top of a hard deck. Classic tracks good too. Careful of pine tree clutter.

Pristine fresh cord from last nights groom made today's skate around Homestead and Hogback from Briton Peak a pure delight. No tree debris or drifts from previous day's high winds. Snow was still cold from sub zero temps last two nights so skate glide was not the best but will improve nicely with coming warmth. Classic tracks and skate deck were solid and smooth, pole plants firm, snow abundant. Perfect start to President's Day weekend. Thanks Sugarbush for the great care put into this system.

It was a perfect weekend on the Sugarbush trails. The skate deck was firm all the way to the outer edge and nearly free of debris. The classic tracks were deep and firm. The trails north of the picnic loop were a little softer. Get out and enjoy while it’s great!
