The 6" of snow Tuesday along with good grooming and cold temps Wednesday set up the Onion River trails perfectly today! It was like skiing on butter. Deck had firmed up nicely and tracks too. The Picnic turnoff and Britton Peak connector trails were rolled only. Met some nice guys out classic skiing the ORR and others simply had big smiles and a hearty hey-ya as we passed. The grooming at Sugarbush is top notch! Get out here folks, it's great!

Moonlit ski on the Onion River Road, -9° made for a beautiful adventure on wood skis! Onion River Rd was groomed today, the tracks and skate deck were firm. Lovely!

Skied the Onion River Road again. Snow began to fall a bit before I started and there was more than an inch by the time I finished. All the debris I saw yesterday was covered and it skied like butter. Ski deck was firm under the fresh snow. I was inside the snowglobe!

Skated the Onion River Road to the end and back. Deck was firm, level, and nicely groomed but there was a bit of tree debris most of the way, thus B skis recommendation. Jumped in the track a few times and they were firm and decent depth with a little debris. Trail also had a dusting of new snow on it. The first 2k skied faster than the rest of the road. Looks like the groomer made a more recent pass on the first section.

Drove over to the Britton Peak trailhead to try the "other side" of the Sugarbush system today. Since it's still early in the season and the grooming was so solid at Onion River/Oberg Mountain the previous day, we ended up driving back there again.
Much colder day, so my kick wax was better, grooming was surprisingly awesome with no debris on the trail. I couldn't believe it! We had massive winds whip through the previous night and the trails looked impeccable! Another 11K all the way to the end. Someday, I'll work up the courage/fitness to do the Picnic Loop again - it's been too long.

Skied a short section of Onion River Rd by headlamp. Skate deck was extra firm, hard packed and fast. Rhythm-wrecking ruts and bumps were present and even frequent at times.

Firsthand: Both
[ Trails Open: Partial, B skis ]
Classic tracks were icy and thin with debris, and some debris was ski stoppers, therefore B ski recommendation. Tracks were too fast to stay in on the way down. Skate deck was refreshed last night and deck was firm and fast although a bit bumpy still. But skating should be fine as long as temps stay down. Don't stop dancing til it snows!

Got on the trail just after sunrise. There was some spruce debris on the trail and my poles occasionally poked through the skate deck, but otherwise the trails were in excellent shape for it being November.

Skied the Onion River Road at dusk today. Deck was reasonably firm despite the above freezing temps but starting to get rutted. As temps dropped the deck hardened fast and the ruts got rough. On the way down it was much easier to double pole in the classic tracks which were well formed and fast.
