Notes

Maintained by Elk River Nordic Nordic Ski Club, these trails have become a hot-spot for fantastic skiing in the North Metro. Trails are largely wooded over rolling terrain, but some sections have good climbs and descents. Trails consist of several interconnected loops and are aptly named--be sure to check out the "Top-of-the-World" and "Gravity Box" as well as "Wash Pond Flats" to the NE of the biathlon range. There is not a warming shack, but at least one port-o-potty at the main parking lot. Primarily groomed for skate (not always tracked for classic).

Afternoon
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Another beautiful afternoon at Woodland trails. It never disappoints. We were pleased with the tracks and found it to be very peaceful. A few leaves down and random twigs. Otherwise perfect!

First time to Woodland Trails. Loved it! Just 45 minutes from Roseville. We skied freestyle in the morning, drove 2 miles into town for lunch, then skied classic in the afternoon. All but the black trails were groomed for both skate and classic. Very scenic - all trails were wooded, even the flat, straight part along the walking path (great for beginners!). Location/signs at every intersection made it easy to follow the trail. Also great signage to delineate walking trails from ski trails, so ski trails were not crushed by walkers. Classic grooves were decent - faded away on corners/intersections, but then picked up again.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
Chainsaw and Lumberjack just finished their evening run with the tandem screens for our Saturday skiing pleasure. Expect a fun skate, especially if you can make it out before the afternoon thaw. Enjoy!

They did an amazing job grooming the transformed snow and timed it well. There was an additional dusting of snow overnight. I skated. No tracks set though some folks had skied some in. It's nearly always a treat to ski Woodland Trail and today was no exception. It has a great rhythm to it and the groomers really know their stuff. And BTW, Dave Anderson - I would say Ancient One deserves his/her couch time if they keep producing grooming plans like this one! :>).

Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Last night's grooming run did a good job of breaking up the hard pack. With this morning lite dusting of new snow I only felt one spot under my skis that was icy. Grooming plans: Grooming run scheduled for tonight, tomorrow's skiing should be a great ending to the 2022 ski season at Woodlands.

Evening
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Crash and Buckthorn Bob (two of our best and brightest that we deploy in tough conditions) just reported in that they had just finished their evening run with the tandem screens. They reported good success putting some profile into recently refrozen trail before it got too hard as the temps dropped. It was snowing lightly as they were heading home. B skis recommended on your first lap until you see if there is any icy stuff that my tatter your edges. We are always amazed at how Ancient One can concoct a grooming plan from his couch. We do, however, hope he gets off it one day soon and helps us out. Enjoy!

Started 7:30am this morning. Snow a bit firmer...soft in spots when poling. Lots of leaves in trail but did not slow skis appreciably. I used good skis.

All trails great coverage and firm grooming. Great for skating and diagonal skiing so I had to do both today. Snow has much faster feel now that temps are warming. There are some leaves scattered about, but as you can see on the long flat railroad grade trail the leaves are not a problem. Plenty of skiers out enjoying sunny day.

I had a very jolly ski, top of the world kicked my butt after those Christmas drinks. Tons of snow, a little soft, my pole went through a few times. No classic tracks on the black diamond routes. Some scattered leaves, nothing to worry about.

Excellent trail coverage. Skating groomed and a bit soft yet. Classic tracks just being laid this afternoon. Fun Christmas Day outing, a few leaves on trail from past high winds.
