What a job the groomers performed at Snowflake! Given the recent rain, trails are excellent. Again, hats off to the groomers for a job well done.

Ridiculously good! Despite the recent sketchy weather, skiing was pretty much perfect again. It paid off brilliantly to close for the rainy spell and groom after the refreeze. There is about an inch of new concrete-like snow that broke up very nicely. The new track on the 5km was excellent. The skate lane throughout was also wide and smooth with perfect edging. What a job turning a weather setback into great skiing! Thanks!

I didn't think conditions could get better than last weekend but the Snowflake grooming crew worked their magic, again. Absolutely fantastic skating this morning. Great move to close the trail after the slushy snow/rain and let it dry out. Thank you John and crew for giving us such consistently great conditions in this challenging snow year.

Night
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
As temps finally descended thru 32 degrees, we groomed all skate decks tonight. Four Ginzu runs to crush the 3/4” crust and mix and compact it with the damp snow underneath. Result is a smooth, firm deck, only marred by some deep ski and dog tracks caused by a few skiers who did not honor the trail closure yesterday and today. We appreciate the 99% who complied. We then ripped out and reset the 6K classic track. It’s a beautiful track and will be firm after setting-up tonight. The 8K classic track survived the warm-up in decent shape, a bit shallow but skiable. We’re open 8-6 on Sunday, 8-8 Monday-Saturday. Think Snow!

Grooming Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Good skis ]
Snowflake is Closed today and Saturday due to wet and fragile trail conditions and warm temps thru today. Our plan is to let the trails dry-out today, re-freeze tomorrow, and groom them on Saturday night. We will re-open on Sunday morning. With no snow in the forecasts, our goal is trail preservation for the coming week. Think snow!

Grooming

All skate decks were groomed this morning. Firm, flat, and fast. After grooming, I classic-skied both the 6 & 8K. The tracks were well-formed, firm, and the “line” was the best we’ve set this season: I only had to step-out of the track at the entry to Special K. Excellent classic skiing. Next grooming will be after the next snow event.

Snowflake continues to deliver awesome conditions. Skate deck is flattening out and has full coverage, with no fear of bringing my A skis out. There are couple of dirty spots near Hovland Hill and one pesky rock on the long straight shot of the 8k that has been there all season (just before the spot marked "Yikes" on their map) but everything is very avoidable. Hopped in the classic tracks on the downhills are they are very firm and clean. Remember that dogs are not allowed on the trails if temps are above freezing!

[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
We groomed the Skate decks on both trails this morning. Warm/humid conditions have softened the decks a bit, but they are smooth and fast. I skied the Perimeter Loop after grooming and found the tracks well-formed, 99% intact, a bit soft, but fast. The 8K has seen much less use, and those tracks were pristine. As temps push into the 30s, member dog-owners are reminded that trails are closed to dogs if the temperature is above 31 degrees to preserve what we have.

My last ski at Snowflake was nearly perfect so I returned today with high hopes for some good skate conditions and fresh grooming. It was even better than expected! I couldn't imagine better skating conditions. The surface was groomed wide and packed, with perfect edging. I really appreciate the widening and brushing work to make it feel spacious and free. Thanks again for the fantastic skiing!
