Morning
Firsthand: Freestyle
[ Good skis ]
Skied the 6k x 3. A bit bumpy still but super fun and pretty fast skating. People looked like they were enjoying the 8k as well but I can't comment on the coverage. It was a gorgeous morning!

Evening
Firsthand: Classic
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
Classic tracks were set and pretty deep, with surprisingly little use given that they're almost the only game in town. The system is still low-coverage overall in terms of snow so it's not surprising that tracks were not as hard set as they'd be with better snow coverage. The classic tracks were better than we actually have any right to expect given the current amount of snow. Occasionally tracks veer very close to the woods alongside. If it's night, get into the skate lane at those times to avoid poking your eye out and all will be well. No difference in quality between 6K and 8K loop tracks.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Good skis ]
It was a lovely day for grooming! All of our trails were compacted and groomed for skate and classic skiing today. The deck on the 6K, having seen heavy use last night, is firmer, but still a bit "rolly" in some sections. The 8K is soft, but smoother. The classic tracks on both trails have not set-up yet, and will be fragile: Skaters please be mindful; Members with dogs should keep your dog on the left side of the trails.

Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, B skis ]
We got 2-3" of new powder today! Once the snow stopped we did four compacting runs on the 6K, but it is very soft and skiers chopped it right up. Too fluffy to form a set track. Grooming plans: Tomorrow we will compact the 8K, clean-up the 6K, and see if we can set a classic track. The 3K lighted loop is lovely!

Surprisingly great coverage everywhere and you can safely use your B skis or even good skis if careful. I saw no rocks exposed and only some sparse grass on a south facing hill on the 8k. It is very uneven and bumpy due to low snow conditions- especially on the 6k (special k is better, as usual). The 8k was much better than the 6k and I pretty much stuck to the back 'loop' of the 8k and recommend the same. Once again, Snowflake continues to be a snow magnet in our low snow winter... So far. Thanks john and crew for your great trail care-taking.

Excellent coverage on the 8km and 6km loops. The 6km is bumpier / more ridges compared to the 8km. Maybe 5 small exposed rocks total on both loops. Can use good skis if careful. Skate grooming only. Great skiing, especially on the 8km loop!

Night

[ Trails Open: Most, B skis ]
Skied 6k. 100% coverage in woods. Good snow consistency. Trails bumpy due to low snow quantity. Some very minor exposed ground near chalet.

Morning
Grooming
[ Trails Open: All, Rock skis ]
This morning we groomed the 2" of snow that fell through Wednesday. The result is a thin compacted base, with 99% trail coverage. Yesterday's wind left. A lot of debris. We cleared the larger stuff, but small junk remains. I recommend rock or B skis until we get more snow. We can't set a classic track yet, but classic skiers are welcome to ski the right side of all trails. Some sections of the 6K remain uneven due to utility vehicles working on the trail this week. Phase 2 of the lighted loop is mostly complete, and all 3K will be lit beginning tonight. We're open 8 am - 9 pm.

From Snowflake: 6k was just groomed, 8k is being groomed. Thin snow over ice means rolling trail surface. Coverage is good but rock or B skis recommended. No classic tracks as the snow is too thin.

Observation Scheduling
[ Trails: Closed, Rock skis ]
We hit 51F degrees at Snowflake today. Four days of warmth and sun have left a thin, wet base and a lot of bare spots. Once temps drop, we expect a sheath of ice, and too thin for the Ginzu knives to scrape a base. We will remain closed until we get a groom-able snowfall. It will come!
